Art Project #72- Marble Swirled Hearts

I thought last week's geometric hears for Valentine's Day was going to be our only heart themed art project but at the last minute we decided to add in just one more.

As part of our 100 Days of Art Challenge I keep trying to come up with fun and new ways of doing art but I realized yesterday that we have some favorite techniques we haven't done in quite some time.

I cut a bunch of coffee filters into heart shapes and we pulled out some trays, liquid watercolors, and shaving cream.

I filled each boys tray up with some shaving cream and let them sprinkle dots of paint over it.

Using a small wooden skewer they swirled the paint into the shaving cream making sure to leave interesting patters in it's wake.

They gently pressed the hearts onto the shaving cream swirls and lifted it back up.

We set the hearts aside to dry and give the shaving cream a bit of time to dissipate.

Once most of the paper heart was visible (by the end of the day), we used paper towel to wipe the remaining shaving cream off and expose the pattern that they had lifted off.  Then we taped them to our window.
