What's Up Wedesday-- January Edition

Image
It's just about the end of the month and time for another What's Up Wednesday post. Let's dive right in! What We're Eating This Week: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes , broccoli and salad Caprese Tuscan chicken with spaghetti and salad Chicken, broccoli, and rice casserole What I'm Reminiscing About: How is it that my middle son is now a teenager?  Wow! Those 13 years flew right by.  Look how little he was!!  He was my smallest baby  (with lots of dark hair).. and now he's almost as tall as his dad. What I'm Loving:   My youngest son and I have been working out for over a week straight using Leslie Sansone videos.  We found her on YouTube and pick a different one each day (rotating in the one DVD we own too).  I just love that his asking me to workout holds me accountable and we've been consistently doing at least 3 miles each day while it was below freezing or raining cats and dogs. ...

The Books My Boys Read in January

Image
It's so hard to believe another month has gone by already!  My boys have been hard at work with their schooling and I am just thrilled with all the reading they've managed to do! We found a new favorite book that we read together and we've begun a new series of books on CD that so far sounds pretty promising.  I definitely have to work just a bit harder to find books that interest ALL of my boys but I know I'm doing something right when they smile over books gifts. World's Strangest Predators -- We had a few non- fiction books from our library and Alec could not wait to dig in and read all about these world predators.  He was so fascinated by what he was reading that he often read out loud and shared with us all. Desmond Cole Ghost Patrol: The Scary Library Shusher -- Evan was so thrilled to get two new books for Christmas.  He just loves these Desmond Cole series.  This book was about the ghost haunting their local library. The Magic Misfits: The Second Story -...

How to Decorate a Glass Block for Valentine's Day

Image
I had bought one of those clear glass blocks before Christmas with the intent of making a lighted Christmas block.. but it never happened.  I have been wanting to make SOMETHING though and thought it might make a cute little addition to my mantle if I made something sweet and pink and Valentine's day themed. I started and ditched at least three other ideas before settling on my final project.  I just love how it came out! First I decided to use patterned paper and but it to fit into my glass block.  Once cut to size, I gently folded it and inserted it into the hole. I used a few sheets of tissue paper to stuff the rest of the block and keep the paper pressed against the front. I found some pretty sparkly ribbon and tied a bow around the whole thing. I had a harder time with the letters. First I tried vinyl but the only shade of pink that might have worked was heat transfer and would not adhere to the glass.  I finally settled on cuttin...
