Visiting Isle of Palms and The Yorktown

Image
It was pretty ironic that prior to our trip to Charlestown I happened to be reading quite a few summer/ beach books that took place all around the city including the islands surrounding it.  I was thrilled when  my husband offered to get up early one morning and drive me over to the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island for a nice walk on the beach.  It was so relaxing!   I loved these two seaside communities; probably more than I enjoyed Charleston!   After our walk and breakfast we decided to head over to Patriot's Point and check out the air craft carrier Yorktown.  We also toured the submarine and would have enjoyed the rest of the areas on display too but the heat had us heading back to our hotel for a relaxing afternoon by the pool sipping an ice cold Pina Colada! I was quite nervous to walk inside seeing all the rusty holes (and we later learned that it's being towed to Florida this winter and sunk off the coast to mak...

Charleston Harbor Boat Cruise

Image
We took a boat cruise around Charleston Harbor.  It was a hot day and the breeze off the water felt so nice and cool.  Our guide was so knowledgeable about the area and all of it's history that we learned so much! It was a great way to see and learn more about Charleston. Learning about the history of the churches of the area; see how the steeple is leaning?  This particular church survived a massive earthquake and has been leaning ever since.  Fort Sumter  Remnants of fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island; the fort used before they build Sumter  We happened upon this overturned boat Luckily it appeared that no one was on board and the coast guard was there helping The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is a cable stayed bridge that connects Charleston to Mount Pleasant; it was completed both under budget and in less time than contracted.   Shrimp boats at port Castle Pickney Linking Up With:

Checking out the South Carolina Aquarium

Image
My husband and I spent a wonderful morning at the South Carolina aquarium.  While not the largest aquarium I've ever been to we did love that the aquarium focused so much on all the natural wildlife found in and around South Carolina!   Diamondback terrapins The whole second floor was full of Lego displays and creations all centered around the exhibits found there!  With this rare albino alligator on display we just knew we had to buy one of the younger boys an albino alligator stuffed animal. I loved this lego replica of this famous Charleston fountain! You might also like this sneak peek into our trip with pictures of our hotel, pool, and the area. Linking up With:

A Sneak Peek at Our Trip to Charleston South Carolina

I'm back... did you miss me? I hope you didn't even notice I was gone.  I scheduled lots of new posts before I left and hoped that would keep you all entertained. My husband and I left last Friday for a four day trip to Charleston, South Carolina-- without the kids! I didn't even take my laptop with me! We had a great time despite temperatures being in the upper 90's and so darn humid it felt difficult to breathe at times. How could we not with views like this?! Or a room like this?? Seriously we spent a lot of time in our room watching TV, napping, reading, and just enjoying the air conditioning! And the pool-- Oh my! We ate such wonderful local fares like fried chicken with sweet tea glaze, low country fish stew, blue crab cakes, and hush puppies. This was one of our favorite restaurants with amazing food and wonderful water views.  We even got to watch dolphins jumping around in the boat wakes. watching all the boate...
