Art Project #24 Wood Burning
We've definitely been slowing down on our 100 Days of Art Challenge but I refuse to give up on it! This week we did find a few minutes to try out some wood burning.
We had gotten a wood burning tool last year from the boys great aunt and we tried burning some simple shapes into some scrap pieces of wood we had lying around. The boys were frustrated with the results and almost burned themselves a time or two. I figured it was not for us.
Then a few weeks ago my mother-in-law sent us a Pin from Pinterest showing us an adorable wooden cutting board that was simply embellished with some wood burning designs.
She had an old cutting board that she wanted decorated and we decided to give it a try.
I am not sure what changed in the last year but the boys did an amazing job! We had a scrap piece of wood nearby to practice on as it is important to keep your hand steady and moving ad the same speed to get an even burn.
The boys were so focused and they were all so great about paying close attention to the tip.
We drew out our designs in pencil first and then traced over the lines. Each boy (and myself) did one design on the board. We kept to simple lines and dots; trying to keep it nice and easy.
It came out great!
