Art Project #26 Spray Painted Canvas

Continuing with our 100 Days of Art Challenge we made some fun spray painted canvases this week.
We had found a few different variations on Pinterest and my boys could not agree on trying out just one type so I worked with them to create what they each wanted.

Evan wanted to make a nature silhouette painting.  We picked out canvas and his spray paint color and then went walking through the yard looking for interesting leaves and things.  He settled on  some ferns and a twig with several green leaves. He arranged them the way he liked on his canvas and started spraying color all around.

Unfortunately, we picked a rather windy day to try this project and his leaves were being blown around a bit.  It made for a more impressionistic silhouette rather than clear, crisp lines, but he was just thrilled with his results.

The other two boys began by taping yarn around their blank canvases in various patterns.  Making sure to keep all the tape on the backside of the canvas they began spraying colors in lines and blotches as they saw fit. Ian waited for his first coat to dry and added a second coat of black to his.

Once they were all done spraying we set the pictures in the sun to dry.

Finally we removed the yarn from the paintings and the boys stood back to enjoy their work. 

They thought this was such a fun and easy project; and I had to agree!
