Art Project #42: Splatter Paint Canvas
After our disastrous wax resist paintings the boys were looking for something fun and no- fail that we could do. Evan suggested splatter painting on the lawn using our new canvases and I happily obliged. I knew it would be the perfect activity for our 100 Days of Art Challenge.
We had fun with splatter painting a few years ago when we were studying Jackson Pollock and all three of my boys have great memories of splatter painting on the lawn (the only place I allow splatter painting!).
It was a nice and sunny day so we brought our canvases outside. I had all three boys spread out and then I brought out some cups of watered down tempera paint.
We had a whole tray of paint colors! And I made sure to bring out paper towels... just in case!
Each color of paint had it's own brush and they took turns using the various colors on their painting. They walked around the canvases flicking their hands and the brushes splattering paint all around. The color combinations were so neat and the boys just loved their paintings.
I just love all the colors and they had SO MUCH fun! They talked a lot about how the colors mixed and bled too.

ReplyDeleteI don't know! I do think I may try to convince the boys to gift off just a few of them for Christmas gifts for family members and the rest... for now are sitting in a nice pile waiting for inspiration on what to do with them.

ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of fun. They didn't get nearly as messy as I thought they would either (though the grass was quite colorful until the next rainstorm).

ReplyDeleteYeah it's definitely not a winter project... well I guess it would make the snow pretty but might be tough to make sure that the paint doesn't freeze first.

ReplyDeleteYes! I have found painting outside is much more relaxing. I've even had my kids painting rocks, their bike tires, etc... and I knew it would all be gone with a single good rain storm.
