Art Project #66-- Washi Tape Cookie Cutter Ornaments

Looking for one last Christmas craft we decided to make up some washi tape ornaments.  I had seen many versions floating around the internet and knew I wanted to make some using cookie cutters when I found a set of 12 cookie cutters for just $6 at Michael's.

As part of our 100 Days of Art challenge I've been trying to get us to use different materials and different mediums; trying out lots of new crafts.  This one was a huge hit!

It was so easy!

We made sure our washi tape was thinner than our cookie cutter and then we just stuck in on all around the outside.  We went slowly and made sure to get the tape into all the grooves.

We noticed that the washi tape still tried to lift up from any deep cracks and grooves so I went around with a pair of sharp scissors and cut the tape at each intersection pressing it back down flat.  An Exacto knife would work perfectly for this job.

Sometimes we tried sticking two strands of washi tape on too.

We then threaded some silver cording through the cutter and hung them on our tree.

I tried my own variation of this craft and wrapped the washi tape around and around the cookie cutter working my way from outside to inside and then back out.  I had to trim the washi tape off a few times and start again; making sure to keep the tape nice and flat.
