52 Lists Week #46; My Thanksgiving Menu

I just love when our weekly list assignment is something that I have been meaning to get around to figuring out.  When I saw that this week's assignment was to "List your Thanksgiving menu" I thought; Yes! I really need to get that nailed down so I can go get groceries.

Last year was one of the first years in a very long time that I decided not to host Thanksgiving.  It did not go over well with my family... OK my husband.  He prefers to stay home and have me cook most of the foods since he's partial to my cooking. He's also not super social so he's more comfortable at home.

But after years and years of hosting pretty much every family holiday I went on strike last year and didn't host any.

It felt SO good to take a break.  Last year I actually enjoyed our holidays!  My mom hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas and we had a wonderful time.  The holidays were so much less stressful that I decided I'm still on strike this year.

It has meant trying to find new holiday traditions and trying out something new here and there.  This year my sister offered to host but with Evan still struggling with tummy issues off and on we decided to enjoy a nice quiet meal at home and we hope to get to my sister's house later in the day for some family time and to share desserts.  Hopefully this will strike the right compromise between being home, seeing family, and not hosting ourselves.

Which means, that I am once again preparing all of the Thanksgiving foods; but with just the five of us (and two boys who don't really like any Thanksgiving foods) it's still a pretty low- key affair.

Here are the foods I plan on making/serving:
  • Turkey- stuffed with lemon, rosemary, and onions (just to flavor the meat)
  • Bread Stuffing with carrots, celery, craisins. and pecans
  • Turkey Gravy
  • Crescent rolls
  • Butternut squash
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Either salad or a green vegetable
We'll be heading to my sister's house for dessert which means I only have to make one this year... and I'm having a tough time choosing!

I'll either bring Apple pie, Tollhouse pie, or this caramel apple lasagna.

  3. We don't have family close by, so it is just us every year and I cook every year, but it would be nice to be able to go somewhere else for a change... except, then there wouldn't be all the leftovers... hmmm. :)

Enjoy and have a blessed Thanksgiving. :)

    1. I found that I ended up cooking us a second thanksgiving last year just because we didn't have any leftovers after going to my moms. Plus a few dishes we liked hadn't been included. We have quite a few traditional dishes we make with all of our leftovers and it just didn't feel like thanksgiving without them. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
