52 Lists Week # 17; The People I Admire

This week's list challenge: the people you admire immediately made me think of my mom.  My thoughts soon turned to my mother in laws, my sister, my husband.  Then they slowly went through most of my family and friends. 

I admire most of them.  I admire different aspects of them all.  


I started writing .... (and deleted) this post multiple times.  I missed my Thursday deadline.... something I've never done.  I thought and stewed and wondered how best to approach this.  I finally realized that what I admired most about my family and friends is what wonderful parents they all are!

This parenting job is seriously tough but everyday I read about moms going off to work to provide the best life they can for their children.  I read about moms who are giving up on their jobs to stay home with their children.  I read about moms who are running from one job to the next job while stopping to grab a bite to eat in between hoping to make it to their kid's game in time to cheer them on.

I read about dads who are helping to clean house after coming home from work.  Dads who take their kids outside to play ball even though they're tired.  Dads who are cleaning up after sick kids, dads who are taking kids to the doctor.  Dads who are missing out on everything working multiple jobs or extra long hours to bring home enough money to support their families.  

See the thing is all those moms and dads I admire all look so very, very different.  There is no one thing that makes them great or admirable other than they are trying to be the best parent they can be.  They are trying to keep all those different plates in the air, spinning, and running, and trying like crazy not to drop any of them.  

Of course we all do every now and then; but that's what makes us human. 

Most of the time all the parents I know come through for kids and that's what matters most in the end... the rest is just providing stories for our kids to talk to with their friends when they're comparing notes about who has the worst parents.  

So whether you are a stay at home mom, a homeschooling mom, a working mom, a single mom, a stay at home dad, a homeschooling dad, a working dad, a single dad... if you continually put your kids first, try your very best to be the best parent you know how to be, always trying, never feeling like you are getting ahead... well I salute you and I admire you.

    Hebrews exhorts us to learn from the faith of those who have taught us the Word. I love this call to a kind of hero worship that exalts those who have exalted God!

    Beautiful! I couldn't just list one person and struggled at first like you mentioned in your post. I ended up taking a similar type of approach where I could show admiration for all the people that bless me.

    We live in a society of judging attitudes. I like how anyone reading this will be encouraged. Except for the few that don't put their families first for whatever reasons, the majority of parents do and they are good. They want the best for their families. Thank you for including everyone here.

 Happy April Fool's day to you! It's the first Monday of the month and time for Prime Purchases with Tanya.  I was doing so well with my Amazon purchases right up until the end of the month when we decided to host Easter dinner at our house and I felt like I "needed" so much not having any Easter decorations at all.  I bought a few new cardigans for this "in between" season and really love this cable knit one so much it's all I can do to keep myself from buying a second one! Alec's Accepted Student Day at JWU

Last spring when Alec started his college planning I was pretty surprised that he only wanted to visit 2 colleges out of state (he visited a few in-state with his high school culinary class).  He ultimately decided to apply to just the 2 colleges we visited-- Johnson and Wales University (JWU) and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Both ranked as the #1 & #2 schools in the U.S for culinary and baking/pastry arts. Funny enough out of his 2 culinary teachers he's had in high school one attended each of those schools!  Photo of harborside campus from last spring JWU Future wildcat photo also from last spring Visiting the CIA over the summer We were lucky that both schools are easily visited in a day and we had a great time touring them both. Alec made sure to ask lots and lots of questions. Day in the Life: Friday Favorites

 I decided to document last Friday for today's Friday Favorites post. I hardly ever document a day in the life anymore now that my boys are grown and mostly on their own. But I knew we had a pretty full day and thought it might be fun.  These are some of my favorite posts to read and I think I did a pretty great job remembering to document and take pictures for the whole day! 5:00 wake up and I allow myself to blog, read emails, etc. until 5:30 5:30 get up, get dressed for the gym, put away my laundry from the night before, make the bed. 5:45 head downstairs to make Alec's lunch (1/2 way though he came to the balcony to tell me he wasn't going to school since he wasn't feeling well-- he's 18 and allowed to make this call himself).  I decided to make a salad, some chicken salad, hard boil some eggs, and cut up all the fruit since we had just done groceries after dinner last night and none of that had been done yet. I emptied, reloaded, and restarted the dishwasher.
