This month's Pinterest challenge was all about Thanksgiving and while I don't typically do much extra decorating for the holiday I did see this cute Give Thanks banner that I thought would add a really nice touch to our fireplace.
While the link leads to a free printable version I knew I could easily whip up something cute and quick on my Cricut.
Using Cricut Sans I made my letters in all caps adjusting them all to be around 2" tall. Using a free banner image sized to 3" wide and 4" tall I cut out 6 each in orange and green (this gave me one extra banner but allowed me to cut them all out in just 2 full sheets/cuts).
Once I had everything cut, I laid out my design and glued the letters in place using rubber cement.
After the letters were glued on, I added small holes in the corner of each card to hang them by.
I threaded some ribbon through and then hung it on the mantle before making sure the letters were perfectly spaced.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics. I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms! The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2 and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning. I think everyone would have loved an Edna Garret in their lives. Benson another sitcom that began airing when I was just 2 and was done by the time I was 9 (another one I must have watched mai...
We had such perfect weather for our long 4th of July weekend and made lots of great memories too. Friday my husband was up early to smoke a couple of pork shoulders for his family's 4th of July party on the 5th. I headed to the grocery store to buy some fresh fruit then came home to cook up some new recipes. I was making a new turkey burger recipe for dinner and had some veggies from our farm box to use up so I whipped up a macaroni salad with fresh peas in it. We made a tossed salad and then I put together our lemon/blueberry ice box cake (also for the party on the 5th). Ian was off with his great uncles for the day helping get set up and cleaned up for the family party so my husband and I went periodically to see if they wanted additional help. I spent most of my afternoon reading on the deck and/or patio. Around 5 my family showed up to watch the lake's annual 4th of July boat parade. We all had fun watching the decorated boats go by. The guy across the cove from us has a...
I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up. I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately. It's such a great stress reliever. 1. Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud. I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears. The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2 The boys being silly. 3. Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband. Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5. Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night. It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7. When my ...
This month for Share Our lives we're talking about our favorite vacation memory.. but there is no way I could share just 1! I tried asking the family but most of them had more than 1 favorite too! Ian loved the fishing charter him and his father went on in Tampa Bay, Florida. Ian with the captain and the shark they caught later that same night with another fish Evan remembers the Guardians of the Galaxy ride in Disney as one of his favorite memories. (Sorry no photo!) As well as seeing the black sand beach on Hawaii and all of the photos he took there; he had a ball using the big Cannon camera with the multiple lenses and getting to see so much unique nature that we don't have around here. My husband remembers watching the boys fight Darth Vader at Hollywood Studios; the camera man really got a great shot of Alec and his "mean" face. I rarely bought Disney photos back then (they didn't have the memory packages like they do now) but I HAD to buy a copy of that o...
Joanne Tracey over at Brookford Kitchen Diaries has started up a monthly cookbook club and the rules such as they are are loose enough that it's easy to follow along and participate. I had taken a short hiatus from participating but I could not resist this month's theme-- Italy! I love Italian food! I got this book from our local library: I did not know Rocco Dispirito but I loved this book. It was filled with family memories and photos and so many delicious looking recipes. We ended up picking Orecchiette with Sausage and Broccoli Rabe to make. I did have to make a few substitutions. This recipe only serves 4 so I had to double it and I only had penne on hand so we used that. I didn't have enough sausage so my son suggested we use a bit of bacon too and that was delicious! I subbed out broccoli florets for the broccoli rabe and even used garlic scapes in place of the garlic (what can I say; I think of recipes as a guide line!) Here's what we...
