This month's Pinterest challenge was all about Thanksgiving and while I don't typically do much extra decorating for the holiday I did see this cute Give Thanks banner that I thought would add a really nice touch to our fireplace.
While the link leads to a free printable version I knew I could easily whip up something cute and quick on my Cricut.
Using Cricut Sans I made my letters in all caps adjusting them all to be around 2" tall. Using a free banner image sized to 3" wide and 4" tall I cut out 6 each in orange and green (this gave me one extra banner but allowed me to cut them all out in just 2 full sheets/cuts).
Once I had everything cut, I laid out my design and glued the letters in place using rubber cement.
After the letters were glued on, I added small holes in the corner of each card to hang them by.
I threaded some ribbon through and then hung it on the mantle before making sure the letters were perfectly spaced.

I was looking through our cabinets this past week trying to find something quick and tasty that I could make as a special Valentine's Day treat. I happened to notice that we had a boxed spice cake mix and decided to make some bakery style cupcakes with that. I whipped up some dark chocolate cream cheese frosting and topped each cupcake with some festive Valentine's sprinkles. Ingredients: For the cupcakes: Spice cake mix 4 eggs 1 cup almond milk 2/3 cup melted butter red food coloring (optional) For the frosting: 8 ounce block cream cheese; room temperature 1 stick butter; room temperature 2 cups powdered sugar 1/c cup Hershey's Special Dark cocoa 2 tsp. vanilla extract Typically if I use a boxed mix to make cake or cupcakes I substitute the water called for on the box with milk, add an extra egg, and replace the oil with double the melted butter. This makes for a buttery flaky cake that tastes more like a fresh bakery cake than a boxed mix. I added a bit of red fo
After spending January working on replacing curtains and pillows in our dining/ living room, February had me turning my sights on our kitchen. I found some fabulous pieces for it on Amazon. I bought this rug for in front of our kitchen sink. We used to have swags in our kitchen window and when I bought these new curtains I had to buy some new rods to go with them; I found these in both sizes I needed. We needed new kitchen towels; our old ones were stained and dirty looking. I bought this curtain for over our sink. Alec used some Christmas money to buy himself a new revolving cake stand. We bought a couple new frying pans and cooking utensils too ( wooden ones & colored ones ) At the suggestion of Andrea from Momfessionals I ordered a box of these delicious cookies- -- OMG! They were a huge hit with the whole family. I needed a nice warm winter hat and I LOVE this one with it's two layers of warmth. Alec outgrew his uniform pants already. I found these in a
Between Newport, Valentine's Day, and a cupcake decorating class we had a pretty fun week. It was also a week where Alec either had no school or a shortened day the whole week so it just flew right by! All the boys had the day off on Friday so we headed to Newport to meet up with some friends of our for a walking history tour of Newport. Our tour guide Erin was amazing and we learned so much about Newport's roll in the slave trade. I NEVER knew that Newport was the hub for ALL slave trade in the colonies. It was a cold day but luckily the sun was shining enough to keep us from freezing. After we finished up the tour we walked down to Panera Bread and had lunch. Our friends had to go home but we made plans to get together again soon. Saturday morning Ian headed off to work while I took Alec to karate. After karate we all enjoyed a bit of Subway for lunch and then my husband and I went to shovel all the snow from the hydro. plant. It only took us 20 minutes or so to c
