TV Shows I LOVE

I have wanted to make a series about shows we're enjoying on TV for several years now but I am so inconsistent with it! I published two posts in 2019 about my favorite shows to binge/rewatch and my favorite shows to watch that season. Then I remembered to write another post in spring 2024 about favorite shows and movies I had been watching and once again forgot to ever write another one.

I have well over a year of TV shows we've "discovered" to share. The good news is it will definitely only list those shows I absolutely LOVED. Now these aren't necessarily new shows but they were new to me.

In no particular order those shows include:

Landman-- set in Texas this show is a wild ride of oil billionaires, roughnecks, and relationships. I love the cast, the sarcasm, and am here for all the craziness.

Nobody Wants This-- An adorable love story between an agnostic that runs a sex podcast with her sister and the sweetest single rabbi who fall in love despite all their friends and families' misgivings.

The Residence-- This was such a fun who dun it set in the white house during a huge state dinner. Cordelia is a quirky detective that might drive everyone a but nutty but is determined to get to the bottom of everything. Sadly it's just one season so it's a really quick binge.

The Better Sister--
Another short one season murder mystery. From the outside Chloe seems to have a perfect life but when her husband is found murdered and her estranged sister turns up Chloe and her sister team up to try and figure out what happened.

Tucci in Italy-- It's not often I put a travel/food show on my watch list but I really enjoyed this one! Stanley Tucci travels all over Italy finding out the secrets to the region's best dishes and seeing him interact with chefs, grandmothers, and business owners while tasting some really delicious looking dishes was a hit with me.

The Bear-- Admittedly I haven't loved all 4 seasons and yet I can't seem to stop watching. A young chef who once worked at a Michelin star restaurant comes home to run his family's sandwich shop after his brother dies. He brings lots of changes and a great cast of talent together trying to launch a new business in his brother's honor.

The Gilded Age-- I have loved all 3 season and all the various story lines of this period drama set in the Gilded age of America. The cast and costumes are fun too.

Dexter-- all of them-- I never in a million years thought I'd enjoy a show about a serial killer but oh man, despite the blood Dexter is quite funny and sarcastic; mostly with this internal dialogue.

Barry -- Another show I was skeptical I'd like, Barry is a hired hit man but one day he follows his mark into an acting class and decides that that is his true calling.

Paradise-- Americans living underground in a false utopian world after some sort of apocalypse occurred. When the president is killed, the head of the secret service detail looks into the death and starts to uncover lots of secrets.

The Pitt-- I love this medical drama set in a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ER. It is very fast paced and has lots of fantastic story lines; some short with the patient stories and some longer with the medical staff.

Only Murders in the Building-- Three strangers team up to start their own true crime podcast after someone is murdered in the building where they live.

High Potential-- This one is a lot of fun! Morgan is a single mom working as a cleaner at the police precinct when she realizes that the murder board is wrong since the police missed a tiny detail. She ends up getting roped in to help solve crimes since she has quite the knack for putting things together.

We Were Liars-- I read this book long before it became a series and found I really enjoyed the series too. The Sinclairs are wealthy enough to own their own island. When Cadence shows up one summer she feels like everyone is keeping secrets from her and she wants so badly to make her memory return. In the meantime. we are given lots of insight into the family through lots of flashbacks to when Cadence and her cousins were little kids.

The Diplomat (all 3 seasons have been great!)-- Keri Russell is thrown into being a diplomat to the United States living in England after an international crisis.

Leanne-- I was late to this fun and funny comedy show. Leanne finds herself suddenly single after her husband leaves her for another woman. She's sweet, and sarcastic, and a riot.

The Lincoln Lawyer-- Mickey Haller runs his law practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car with the help of his skeleton crew while helping a wide variety of clients in L. A.

Rescue Hi Surf-- Remember Bay Watch? This show, set in Hawaii, reminds me quite a bit of it! Set on the North Shore of Oahu it follows a set of lifeguards as they save lives in various life- threatening conditions.

Man on the Inside-- I just adore this show where Ted Danson goes undercover as a spy. The first season finds him in an old folks home while the second season is set on a college campus. He's not a great spy and yet despite his blunders here and there he does figure it out in the end.

Army Wives-- Yes, I know I am SO late to this one but I was immediately sucked in. Set on an army base, this drama follows several families living on an army base in South Carolina. So much drama and yet the unlikely friendships of a handful of woman is the prime story line.

So Help Me Todd-- This fun comedy follows lawyer Margaret Wright who hires her son to be the firm's in house investigator after he fell on some hard times and had his PI license revoked.

The Bookie-- We stumbled upon this one by accident. A bookie who is trying to keep his business going despite the fact that sports betting is about to become legal.

Lionness-- Joe is a soldier that is caught between her job working for CIA and her husband and kids. Her branch of the CIA recruits mostly women to go undercover in their war on terror.

A.P Bio-- This one is a riot! Harvard philosophy professors finds himself teaching A P Bio at his hometown high school. He makes it very clear to the students that he will not be teaching any bio at all and recruits his class of honor students to help him win back his old job.

The Resident-- If you like Grey's Anatomy you'll like this one! Conrad is one of the best doctors at the hospital but he had some unconventional approaches and enjoys breaking in the first year residents.

North of North-- Siaja is part of a very small Inuk community who is trying to reinvent herself in the tiny arctic town where she lives after a very public and rather messy separation from her husband.

Royal Pains-- A big city doctor finds himself practicing medicine in the Hamptons after a very messy lawsuit that had him blacklisted from the medical community he had built his reputation on.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder-- When Pip starts looking into the disappearance of a local girl that went missing 5 years ago she might have stirred up more than she bargained for.

Emily in Paris-- Emily is sent to Paris to provide an American perspective at a French marketing firm and struggles to fit in, learn the language, and please her bosses.

The Perfect Couple-- A fun series based on one of Elin Hilderbrand's books. A body is discovered just hours before a lavish wedding on Nantucket and everyone in the wedding party is a suspect. I've learned it will be back for a season 2.

Not Dead Yet-- Hired to write obituaries for the local news outlet, Nell is startled to find that she sees and hears the dead people she's been assigned to write about. A weird premise I know but it works and it's funny.

Abbott Elementary-- Such a cute and funny show about teachers in a struggling Philadelphia school who are determined to do the best job they can for their students.

Ghosts-- Samantha and Jay decide to convert a huge country estate they inherited into a B&B only to find that it's haunted by a rather eclectic band of ghosts from people of all generations that have died on the property.

Will Trent-- Will works for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Plagued by dyslexia and haunted by memories of his childhood growing up in the foster care system he often struggles to make meaningful connections with other adults but is determined to make a difference.

Untamed-- A woman's death in Yosemite National Park, special agent Kyle Turner suspects foul play and his investigation uncovers quite a plot.

Suits--
A college drop out with a photographic memory lands a job at a prestigious law firm in New York City.

Once Upon a Time-- I haven't watched the whole series yet but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Fairy-tale legends have all been cursed by the evil queen and pulled into present day modern life living in a small town in Maine. Told in multiple time lines between "now" and the past one little boy knows that the book he's been giving is real and goes in search of the one woman that can break the spell.

Devious Maids-- Think Desperate Housewives but told from the maids point of view. There is lots of drama and secrets and even some murder.

All's Fair-- A group of female divorce lawyers form their own law firm taking on mostly female clients but they have some enemies of their own that often try to bring them down.

Sirens-- A limited comedy series, Devon shows up at her sister Simone's place of business, a luxury beach side estate, because she is alarmed at how entangled Simone is with her controlling boss Michaela.

  1. I don't have a streaming subscription, so that explains a lot already, but I honestly have only seen one of these (and have to admit I didn't like that one much) although there are definitely some that would interest me.
I only know the original of "Ghosts" (and the German version which has just one season so far, I missed when they started showing the US version on TV) and adore it and also just the French original of High Potential which I watch in German because my school French from 100 years ago just isn't enough.

  2. Great list! I need to add "Murders" to our watch list. Some of our faves from this list have been "Everybody Wants This", "Tucci In Italy" and "High Potential" :)
