Share 4 Somethings in October
Since the last Saturday of the month is tomorrow it's just about time for Share 4 Somethings with Jenn. As always we're sharing some things we loved, some things we learned, some things that went well, and some things we let go of.
Some things I've loved: While this was technically in September it was after the last Share 4 Somethings so I'm counting it-- Evan and I LOVED the 21 Pilots concert. It was an amazing night.
I also loved celebrating my husband's birthday.
We had a lovely date night this weekend; we wanted to try Hell's Kitchen at Foxwoods but they were booked so we went back to David Burke Steakhouse.

| yep, I got salmon at a steakhouse! |
Alec and I went to dinner and a show at the PPAC last night. We saw SIX and while I'm writing this advance I'm pretty confident it's going to be in he love category for the month. If nothing else I got to see Alec for the first time in over a month! (edited to add in some photos this morning-- it was wonderful!)
Some things I've learned: Oh I learned so much this month about the Common App and how to navigate it from the student's, the teacher's, the parent's, AND the counselor's perspectives since I helped Evan fill out his side and I am his teacher/ parent/ and counselor rolled into one.
Some things that went well: We toured our final college and found one more to add to Evan's list. Nichol's is really pretty! That should bring our applications up to 4 (but we'll see.. one college seems to require homeschoolers to provide SAT scores so they may be off the list but what we were told in person and what we're finding online don't match up so hopefully we'll get that straightened out soon).
Some things I let go of: I pulled all the rest of my fall and winter clothes out of storage and finished packing away all spring/summer stuff and filled up 2 more bags of clothing to get rid of.

4 great things! I think many colleges let you apply without a test score at all whether you are homeschooled or not so definitely check on that. I have filled out so many common apps!
ReplyDeleteYep, only one of of the 8 schools we toured wanted SAT scores for homeschool kids; which was why we were surprised to see it listed for this school when we were told repeatedly they were test optional. However, on their homepage it does say they are test optional for everyone except homeschool students.
DeleteI loved all your answers to the prompts! That concert pic with the confetti is amazing. I know you loved doing that with him! That college campus is beautiful; I hope you get all the details figured out soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGreat pictures as usual!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had so much to enjoy this month.
Thanks!
DeleteYour date night meal looks delicious. I prefer salmon to steak almost any day of the week (sometimes a steak does sound good!) That college campus looks really pretty. I'm sure it's especially pretty in the fall. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYeah, sometimes a steak does sound good but I am much more of a seafood person.
DeleteA fun month for sure with some delish meals! How do SATs work for Homeschooled Kiddos? Can they still take them if they choose? I am right there with you! We are going through the Common App too...or just did...she is officially done...applied to 18 schools- eek! Thank God the NH schools were free to apply to.
ReplyDeleteYep, I did have to Google that myself as I know most schools around us just give all their students the SAT during the course of the school day/school year but there were 2 schools that offered testing dates on the weekend opened to the public so he could have taken them if he wanted to. We're finished too but he only applied to 3-- all of which were free.
DeleteSIX is such a fun play! We saw it in New York last year and would love to see it again.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of fun!
DeleteLooks like a fun month!
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteThat's awesome that Evan has his official list of colleges! Now to narrow them down to one!
ReplyDeleteOh he knows his top choice; we're just waiting to see if they accept him.
DeleteI know a lot of schools are going to start requiring test scores from all students, but probably not this year. It sounds like such a fun month with the concert and musical!
ReplyDeleteI've heard highly selective schools are bringing them back but (as far as what they claim now) many Evan looked at have proudly always been test optional and say it works better for them to look at the whole student. Evan's applications are all done so he's set one way or the other.
DeleteThe concert really does look amazing and how great to see SIX!
ReplyDeleteIt is all very exciting for Evan and the college applications. Good luck to him.
Thank you!
DeleteThat concert looks like fun. Love the photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou're reminded me I better get writing. I have 2 posts to get done this weekend. Where did this month go???? I saw 21 Pilots 9 years ago - they're show looks a lot bigger than when I saw them! Ha! Good for them! #WeekendCoffeeShare (I love Six. How much fun is it? Who would have thought you could make such a feel good musical out of that history?!)
ReplyDeleteRight?! This month flew by!
DeleteTalk about a fabulous month...it's nice to get out and do things that are special.

How fun to have dinner and see SIX with Alec. Good luck to Evan and his college applications. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to see SIX when it was here, but I found out too late to get good seats. At this stage of the game, I only want the good seats. Good luck to Evan and narrowing down his choices. My kids were pretty easy when it came to choosing (luckily).

I love a concert! That is impressive to get rid of 2 bags of clothing. I need to do that very soon. The weather has finally turned fall here.
ReplyDeleteAnother great month for you Joanne. Where has October gone!
ReplyDeleteI love to go out for dinner, we are tonight with friends! And concerts are fabulous! Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like an exciting month. That concert sure used a lot of pyrotechnics.
ReplyDeleteI'm not quite sure where my month has gone but your has been jam-packed! I'm so glad you were able to make and share so many wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend is restful and the week ahead smooth!
YOu've had a busy time. I'm a little envious about Six. We were away when it played here and I would have loved to see it!
ReplyDeleteI will have to look them up (LOL) but those concert pics are AMAZING!!
