Sentence a Day in April

After a month and a half of sheltering in place (that has now been extended to May 20th) our days are all starting to blend into one another.  Mostly we broke up the monotony with puzzles, books, lots of baking, and some hiking.

1. I made chocolate chip muffins for breakfast so we got a late start to our school day.

2. We made white chocolate popcorn for our afternoon snack while watching our movie.

3.  I finished up my Mother's Day craft and worked on my puzzle for a bit after the boys finished their schooling.

4.  My husband and I went to two stores (Bj's and Stop & Shop) before lunch to get all our groceries; the last time we can do this as a new mandate has passed where only 1 person from each family will be allowed in the store with 1 cart--  then I completed my puzzle in the afternoon.

5.  Started a new book and a new puzzle and worked on a bunch of new blog posts.

6.  After a nice long hour hike in the morning, Alec took to his bed and I cooked up a batch of chicken noodle soup and this delicious no knead bread.

7.  Alec and I headed to the doctor's office (yes, mid-pandemic) so they could evaluate his appendix and run some tests; thankfully everything came back in the normal range.

8.  I baked up some blueberry boy bait and once again spent my day checking on Alec asking him how he was feeling every hour or so (poor kid has got to be sick of my asking).

9. I made some birthday cards for my father- in- law's & step-father's birthdays and got them in the mail then finished up my latest puzzle.

10. I finished up my latest book (The Last Bathing Beauty) and washed all of Alec's blankets and sheets now that he's starting to feel better.

11.  Alec and I worked together to make a brownie/ no-bake cheesecake dessert for Easter.

12.  Happy Easter!

13.  We had so much rain and wind that we lost power a few times throughout the day and our windows even started leaking water.

14.  We spent most of our day walking the trails in the woods and clearing trees that had fallen yesterday.

15.  We played World Landmark Bingo and watched Ian complete another chemistry experiment this time learning about Boyle's Law.

16.  We made up some mango scones with a lime glaze; they were delicious!

17.  We went on an hour and a half hike and it felt so good to be back outside; even if it was pretty chilly.

18. We woke to snow and continued to see flurries and flakes most of the day!

19. We went on a nice long 2+ hour hike after lunch.

20.  After a cloudy gray day watching a few Nailed It! episodes, the boys and I saw the sun making an appearance and got out for an hour hike.

21.  We made a fabulous chocolate chip pumpkin bread (I used a Jiffy pumpkin boxed mix and added in 1 cup of dark chocolate chips).

22.  I started working on another puzzle.

23.  Evan and I headed for a quick walk to the state park and back while the older two boys stayed home battling it out in ping pong.

24.  We celebrated Ian's birthday with a delicious cake Alec made.

25.  It was a beautiful day so we worked on picking up the yard and I tried my hand at making up a new pasta salad recipe using leftover ham (recipe coming soon!).

26. We went on a nice hour long walk in the woods, almost making it home before the rain began, and in the afternoon I finished up the latest puzzle.

27. I started a new puzzle, a new book, and even took a quick run to the bank before talking on the phone with my sister for nearly 2 hours.

28.  Alec and I prepped his room for painting!

29.  We headed out hiking in the morning and then stopped by the store to pick up paint swatches on our way home.

30.  After a quick grocery run in the rain I settled down in the afternoon to bake up some oatmeal scotchie cookies, zucchini bread, and cornbread-- recipes coming soon on those too.

  1. Love your food pictures! And the hiking - I can relate to this as we have a forest nearby and do a lot of walks there. I am not really baking as there's just me and my husband, but I'm doing a lot more cleaning. I will take a look at The Last Bathing Beauty, looks interesting.

  3. You are so lucky to have somewhere so beautiful to hike. All of your food made my mouth water, it looks so delicious. Belated happy birthday to Ian what a yummy looking cake. I can't believe you had snow too, I've not seen snow in a long time. I hope May is lovely for you. #MMBC

    1. We really are lucky to have so many places to hike nearby. That is definitely helping us stay sane and healthy. I couldn't believe we had snow.. we had hardly any all winter so it seemed like a cruel trick of nature to give us some in spring.

  4. It's fascinating to see what everyone is cooking while we are all confined to home!
It seems so strange to see snow in your photos just as we are starting to see better weather here. Pleased to hear that Alec is feeling better now.

    1. We are finally seeing better weather here too and even broke out our flip flops these past few days. I hope it's the last of the snow. I am so relieved that Alec is feeling better and whatever he had did not get passed onto anyone else either.

  5. Totally loved all the puzzles you've done. I just finished one on Saturday, which is the first one I've done in a really long time. All your food pics look delicious and what a great place to walk. Hope you have a great day!

    1. I haven't worked on puzzles in ages but found they are a really great distraction; especially for those times I couldn't seem to concentrate to get any reading done.

  6. White chocolate popcorn sounds delicious. I've been working on puzzles too. Yours are beautiful. I waited too late to get ones I liked from the store. I bought whatever they had left. :) I'll order some new ones soon. I keep a one-line-a-day journal as well. It's so fun to look back on previous years and see what I was doing on this day!

    1. It was so delicious and I don't really like popcorn! We were lucky to be gifted a large pile of beautiful puzzles and I did order the hot air balloon one from a schooling supply place when I placed the order for the boys' school books for next year. I was surprised they had any in stock!

    1. Thankfully he's feeling just fine now. I really was a wreck thinking we might have to endure surgery and a hospital stay mid-pandemic; I was so relieved it wasn't his appendix.

  12. I want to come to visit for just a week of good eating. Or I would like to borrow Alec to be mine personal baker for a week. Everything looks so delicious and hearty. That crusty no-knead bread would make a fabulous family bread bowl for a chowder or soup. We make a pumpkin bread with chocolate chips using Bisquick. But lately nothing is rising the way it should. Not sure if I need to buy all new flour, baking soda and baking powder, Bisquick and yeast. Or maybe adjusting
recipes to use the higher altitude version. Frustrating.
Glad to you and the hubs on the trail. Y'all are some serious puzzle workers. I finally got PC to help me with mine. Found a board I could work mine on and then put it away from the kitty paws when we aren't working on it.
Can't believe you guys had that recent, but beautiful snow.

    1. I am pretty much the only one working those puzzles.. I think Ian might have helped with a handful of pieces but the others wont even come near me when I'm working on them. I think they're afraid I'll guilt them into helping. The pumpkin bread was made from a boxed mix that I just threw a handful of chocolate chips into; every now and then it's nice to find something quick and easy to bake up.

  17. You have been so creative in so many ways to pass the time! So much delicious food you have made. We have been able to go on two hikes in the past 8 weeks because the weather has been less than cooperative! I would love to go out walking in nature more.
