Share 4 Somethings in March 2026

Tomorrow is the last Saturday of the month and time for Share 4 Somethings with Jenn. This year we're sharing something we loved, something that sustained us, something we're carrying forward, and something we're making space for each month.

Something I loved: My husband and I had a really fabulous and delicious date night this month. We went to D' Avios Italian Steakhouse and Cupcake Charlie's.

a cupcake whirlie; they swirl a cupcake into soft served ice cream

Alec and I LOVED Wicked! We actually had a really fabulous night with delicious pizza beforehand at a place that was voted Providence's Best Pizza (and we agreed!).

We loved our time at Clark university's accepted student day-- and the delicious lunch we had at the nearby Peppercorn's restaurant.

Something that sustained me: Our generator was sustaining us through a short 2-day power outage. Living out in the country without power we also don't have water since our well pump can't work which makes things like drinking water and flushing toilets hard as well just the problems of not being able to cook or keep our food from spoiling, etc. Our generator is a real life saver in times like these. It's funny to walk through the neighborhood as that is all you hear. I think pretty much every house has one since we lose our power rather frequently (and rarely for just an hour or so).

it seemed like the whole state was without power- lots of roads were closed too!

Something I'm carrying forward: I'm holding onto my hope that spring weather will arrive real, real soon!!

Something I'm making space for: We've started slowly buying dorm supplies for Evan and we're quite literally making space for it all. We're also making space in our yard again for my parents and their trailer for the summer and a new fuel tank that Ian built for his business (that will come in real handy on those occasions when we need our generator).

  1. It sounds like a generator is a must have. Here, our power rarely goes out but it certainly does at times. Many of our neighbors have them and I know what you mean about the sound of them. (Though it's not like everyone has them!). That cupcake whirlie looks so good and what a neat concept for a dessert. Have a great Friday!

    1. Yeah, within just a few short years of moving here we made sure to have a generator. I think we've lost power every single month this year so far.

  2. I need to get to that pizza place. I also have heard great things about Pepperocorn's- glad you enjoyed! That Whirlie sounds like my kinda dessert- yum :)

    1. We've been trying to eat at more Worcester area restaurants so he has some ideas for when he's living there.

  3. I had no idea a cupcake was in that ice cream! Wow! You are literally making space for a lot of things. It worked out great that we built a new bedroom for Tom and I and had an empty old bedroom that would become our bathroom and that is where we laid out the dorm stuff. It was a lot with twins! You now are a pro at what he actually needs!

    1. I do feel like a pro; but of course Evan is much more typical "boy" than Alec and doesn't think we need to buy or send him with much of anything... then I remind him he'll need things like sheets and towels and a backpack.

  4. We are currently getting quotes on a whole house generator. Most people have them on the lake. We don't have a well but we do seem to lose power more than anywhere else we've lived. That cupcake in the soft serve sounds scrumptious! Have a great weekend!

    1. Our generator runs just about everything in our house. The only thing I can't use is the oven and our downstairs heating system.. oh and the dryer (but I can wash clothes). We've looked into getting one that turns on automatically when we lose power and are pretty sure that will be our next big purchase.

  5. A generator definitely sounds like a good choice for you! We hardly ever lose power here and the last time it happened and took a few hours, it was interesting to see just HOW much I was not used to it.

  9. Your date night sounds FABULOUS! I still have the remaining "items" leftover from all 3 girls college lives still...Ugh!! What generator do you guys have? I have been looking for a few years but just not sure which one I should get.

    1. We have a large commercial diesel generator my husband found years ago through his work.

  10. Do you have a built in whole house generator ? A lot of people here have started to get those because of the hurricanes. We have a portable one that will run on gasoline or natural gas from the house line.

    1. We do not have a built in generator but we do have a very large one that can run most everything in our house (in fact we used to share with my brother in law next door it's so large), however it doesn't turn on automatically.

  12. A couple of people in our neighborhood have generators. Our power has gone out just a couple of times for only a little bit. But, it makes me wonder if they know something we don't! Or, perhaps, someone there has a medical necessity for electricity. Glad you've had such a wonderful month!

  13. Wow...having your power go out that often is crazy, but good thing for the generator.

  16. We had dat night last Thursday, love it. We only went out for dinner. So much relies on electricity. You only notice that when it doesn't work.

    1. LOL! We did buy 2 pies; one for each of us (but I sent my leftovers home with my son).

  22. Our second home was on well water. And, yes- it was very much an inconvenience. We would keep couple of 5 gallon buckets in the house. This would be for flushing the stool, taking PTA's. Message me if you do not know what pta stands for :) We did have a wood stove that we could heat up water and cook on. Most of the.our electricity was out for few hours, couple times for a full day. Once during a freeze our electricity was out for two days. That's when my husband said for me and kids to go to the next town over and get a hotel room. Our house was in the country as well.
A generator I can relate to and if we had more outages lasting two day or more, we would have gotten one.
