Currently in March & Hodgepodge Wednesdays Just Desserts Edition

It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for Currently with Amy. This month's prompts are what is saving your life right now, cleaning/purging, loving, planning (trip wise), taking a break from (since it’s Spring break month).


What is saving your life right now: Yoga, being back home in my own bed, sleeping through the night, getting back into my usual routine, snuggling/hugs with my husband, laughter & silliness, the sun-- it may still be winter but at least it's been pretty bright and sunny, good books. 
 
Cleaning/purging: I'm not really purging anything right now but after having left my husband, brother, and Ian home alone all last week while Evan and I were in North Carolina I'm doing ALL the cleaning this week. Bedding, dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms, floors... everything has been getting a good once over and being put back to rights. 

Loving: My new Stitch Fix box. I had one delivered the night we left for vacation and it was one of those boxes where I loved everything in it!

Planning (trip wise): Nothing really; all our trips for the year are all planned. The last thing was buying Alec's tickets to Greece for his 2 week summer study abroad trip and we did that in February. Plus I'll be honest, the thought of traveling anytime soon makes me feel rather anxious. I'm still waiting for my anxiety levels to come back down to normal... 

Taking a break from (since it’s Spring break month): Our local public schools do not have a spring break as they take an April vacation usually starting Good Friday. But Alec's college is on spring break this week. He's living in Ian's room since Ian is in Las Vegas and my brother is in Alec's room. I can't really think of anything I am taking a break from currently though in my life.. except perhaps hiking still since it's very snowy outside.

 1.  As the saying goes, 'March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.' Did your March come in roaring or like some other animal? Every month carries with it certain feelings, which is why some people love and anticipate December and others dread it. How do you feel about the month of March? 
 
Thankfully our March came in pretty lamb-like, we did have some sort lived snow flurries on Sunday but compared to the last week of February it was really, really mild. I often have mixed feelings about March-- spring is getting closer which I love but it's still often quite cold and snowy here so I mostly view it as one more month to get through before it starts to feel like spring.

2. Where in your life are you a lion? Where are you a lamb? 

I am a lion when it comes to my kids and close family members and advocating for them or defending them (when/if they need my help). I think I'm most lamb-like when it comes to... just about anything else I guess? I'm pretty quiet (I think) and fairly even tempered.   

3. The Hodgepodge lands on National Pound Cake day. Do you like pound cake? If so do you have a favorite flavor?

I don't mind pound cake but I really only like it with fresh strawberries and whipped cream in the summer.

4. What makes you feel childlike wonder right now?  

Nature often makes me feel that way. Sunday morning I was making a salad and looked up to spy a fox sitting at the base of a tree outside our kitchen window. Things like that make me very excited as I call everyone over to see (sorry, I never thought to snap a photo and he was gone in minutes). 

5. What's one thing you need to add to your wardrobe to get ready for spring? If you're in the southern hemisphere, then answer for fall? 

I don't really need to but I'd like to find a denim vest. 

6. Insert your own random thought here. 

Each time I participate this is the question/area that stumps me the most. What is really "worthy" of sharing? What random thought do I have that others will even care about? I never know what to write.

    Nice dessert photos- I didn't think to add photos- yours all look so good and I agree with all of your choices. Your new outfits are all so pretty. I especially like the first one. I can see why the thought of travel makes you anxious. You've been through a lot travel wise...

    I just received a new stitch fix too and loved almost everything. Last time I did keep it all, but returned two things this time around. I need a couple of things still and want to shop. I was with a group of neighbors last night and we talked about the current state of travel. Two had trips to Mexico planned soon and both have cancelled. There are state dept warnings about Mexico right now and who needs that sort of anxiety. My girls both have summer trips booked abroad but I guess will have to see how the world looks at that point. I'm sure you're enjoying being home : )

      Yeah, Alec's school has a series of study abroad trips planned for this summer (not just his to Greece but 2 others as well)... but I figure that is up to them to make the right call when the time comes.

    It sounds like you are glad to be home even with all the cleaning to do. That first outfit is so cute, I love the sweater!
    I hope you have some nicer weather soon. That poundcake with the strawberries and cream looks good! Yum to all of the cakes!
    I always struggle with the random thought too. I have tons a day but when it comes answering this, my mind goes blank!

      I LOVED that sweater so much and I don't own any tan pants at all so that first outfit was a perfect addition to my closet.

    I agree with your nature response. I love everything but the bugs.
    That navy trench will be so great to have. You should order a silk scarf with navy in it.

I am a Lion too when it comes to my family....I am about to start the change over from Winter/Heart Month decor to Easter....I have been putting it off because I honestly love the way the house looks right now but it is time to move on to Spring....I hope you enjoy your week!! It is warming up into the high 50's here but with rain...

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. What's Up Wednesday: February 2026

It's the last Wednesday of the month and time to link up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday. I won't have as many photos as usual since they're on my laptop and that is home in CT... I only have the last few days on my phone.   What We're Eating:  Evan and I flew to North Carolina for a long weekend and got stuck here since a blizzard hit the east coast and airports shut down (last I heard Providence RI [where we fly into] got 37.5 inches!). We're Eating things like: Crepes from Our Crepes and More.  Mine was a tiramisu crepe. Then for dinner my mom had homemade meatballs and sauce with spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad.      Breakfast has consisted of yogurt parfait bowls (sorry some photos are sidways and upside I don't have my laptop with me and Blogger is a bit limited on the phone app) or eggs with sourdough toast.  We had a huge family cookout with chicken, burgers, roasted potatoes, veggies, and salad with pineapple...

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning. North Carolina Trip: Highs & Lows

Evan and I headed to North Carolina for 4 days from Saturday February 21st until Tuesday February 24th... or so we thought. It was just a"quick trip" to see family... but a blizzard hit at home and we could not find a flight back home to the airport I had parked at until very, very late Friday February 27th and we arrived home at 2 am on February 28th.  Evan had been asking to go down "one last time" to see his cousins before he starts college in the fall and we were able to make that happen. My sister, her husband, and her two teen/young adult sons had just moved in January and live much closer to my mom now so we figured this was the perfect time to go. I only had to pay for flights and my mom offered to chauffeur us around for the weekend plus got their spare bedrooms set up for us to stay with them. I thought this would be a cheap trip as well but added airfare costs, much longer parking at the airport, and filling our days with things to do added up quickly.  W...

TV Shows I LOVE

I have wanted to make a series about shows we're enjoying on TV for several years now but I am so inconsistent with it! I published two posts in 2019 about my favorite shows to binge/rewatch and my favorite shows to watch that season.  Then I remembered to write another post in spring  2024 about favorite shows and movies I had been watching  and once again forgot to ever write another one.  I have well over a year of TV shows we've "discovered" to share. The good news is it will definitely only list those shows I absolutely LOVED. Now these aren't necessarily new shows but they were new to me.    In no particular order those shows include: Landman- - set in Texas this show is a wild ride of oil billionaires, roughnecks, and relationships.
