Talking About it Tuesday #104

I was so excited to see so many Valentine themed posts showing up already. I feel like it is so far away but really it's just 3 1/2 weeks away. While we don't do anything big I do love to celebrate in small ways like making handmade cards for the men in my life and buying some sweet treats for them to enjoy. I'm sure my husband and I will have a date night... just not on actual Valentine's day! We like to avoid the crowds. 
 
Apparently we all love to see some love since last week's post most definitely celebrated love!

    Thanks for another week of Talking About It Tuesday, Joanne. The months go by so fast, as do holidays! I usually make a favorite dinner for St Valentine's Day and my husband gives me roses which makes a winter week feel more festive.

I read 150 books in 2025 so it was really hard to pick just a few favorites. Typically I just go through each month and pick a favorite from the month but I thought this year it would be fun to pick favorites based on various categories. It was still so tough to pick just one book for each category though!   Best Young Adult novel:  I Hope This Doesn't Find You by Ann Liang--   This was another fun listen on my Libby app. Sadie tries so hard to make everyone like her but at times her frustration can get the best of her so she lashes out in email form. She never, ever plans to send any of them but they help her feel better.... until the day they all get sent and her life turns upside down. Most of the letters are sent to her nemesis Julius Gong and in a surprising twist of fate the emails find the two of them working together more than ever. Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning. 15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Favorites & Highlights from December; One Sentence a Day

 We had a lovely, if cold, December. Our Christmas was very quiet and low-key and despite my reluctance to celebrate this year we had lots of fun with family.... but I'm already starting to petition for a trip away for next Christmas.   1. So thankful for some great books from the library.  Gym, spent my day doing laundry, working on my painting, and reading. 10,169 steps.   2. So thankful the snow in the forecast was just rain today!  Evan and I headed to Nichol's for a shadow day in the rain, it was fun and informative, then I spent my afternoon running errands. 7,802 steps.  another library pick up!  3. So thankful I talked myself into going for a walk after lunch that turned into a mini hike.  Gym, then I spent my morning in the kitchen cooking up so many things; it was beautiful out so I squeezed in a walk after lunch and then worked on the blog until dinner. 10,521 steps.   homemade granola bars whole wheat everything bag...
