Southwick's Zoo Trip; New Baby Cheetahs

The boys and I have been waiting all summer to go to Southwick's zoo. They had announced earlier this spring that new baby cheetahs had been born and we could not wait to see them.. but they were kept off exhibit for several weeks while they grew and were cared for. 

We decided to pick a day at the end of July (after they were introduced to the zoo) to go. We brought my mom along and spent a good 4 hours at the zoo. I'm pretty sure we saw every animal there at least once if not twice.

Our first stop was to see the new cubs. There are 2 girls and a boy. 





The cubs are only out for the first 2 hours of the day so we wanted to make sure we saw them before heading off to check out the rest of the zoo.

We stopped for a delicious lunch at Gia Restorante Italiano on the way home. We had never been there before but it was a really yummy meal-- especially after being on our feet for so many hours.

    I love going to zoos - except for the smell in some areas. I love watching a sloth! I love watching the penguins. And, if there is a water show with water animals that is really appealing to me.

      We enjoy zoos and aquariums a lot too. This zoo typically has some bird shows but I didn't see any showtimes listed this day.

      Aren't they so cute? They make the most adorable little chirping sounds too. Lots of the animals were very vocal this day.

      Isn't that so cute?! They have that fuzzy silver hair down the back to protect them because in the wild it makes them look like honey badgers to their predators and honey badgers are quite aggressive.

    They are so cute! I am forever spoiled by the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. I think it is probably the best zoo (other than the National Zoo) I have ever been to. We only lived 20 minutes away and went every summer. If you're ever in that area, I highly suggest it!

    Those baby cheetahs are truly the best! I love all the animals at the zoo. I need to plan a zoo trip with our grandson this fall when the weather is cooler. My favorite animals to sit and watch are the gorillas, but not every zoo has them.

    the chetahs are so cute at least they will never life beyond the confines of the safety of the zoo. the monkies at our local zoo make me laugh. I could watch them for hours!

      I feel the same way about many of the animals we encountered too; they are quite fun to watch when they are so active like the monkeys.

    So sweet! They gave them a kitty carrier for feeling safe. I love that. That's what we did too when we brought our kittens home. You surely had a great time visiting all of the animals there. We loved going to the wild animal park at San Diego when we lived there.

15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6.
