Weigh in Wednesdays: My Favorite Low Point Weight Watcher's Dinner Ideas

 I love trying out new recipes so when we joined Weight Watchers a few years ago, I jumped in with both feet experimenting with any recipe that was dubbed "weight watchers," "lightened- up," or "healthy" and then tweaked them to suit our family's taste and my Personal Points system.  As you will see by my list I just LOVE pasta and potatoes so many of our recipes include one of those two.  We also eat a lot of broccoli as that is one vegetable that all 3 of my boys eat without complaint. 


*Now I wrote this post just the day before Weight Watchers rolled out their latest plan but I can already tell I'm going to like it! I like that I no longer have to track all the veggies and that my zero point foods are now the same as my husbands!*   

On my Personal Points plan whole grain pasta and potatoes are zero points so most of these dinners are just 2 or 3 points per serving!  

1. Tuscan chicken pasta (I use this recipe)  So on my plan it's just 3 points per serving


2. Chicken/Sundried Tomato orzo one dish-- made with whole grain orzo this entire plate of food is just 3 points.


3. Teriyaki chicken casserole-- (This recipe; though I did add more veggies) This dish is 6 points per serving but the portions are generous with the extra veggies added! 


4. New England baked fish with roasted fresh veggies and a baked potato-- This entire meal is usually under 5 points with just a few points from Ritz and butter (though I use Brummel and Brown yogurt spread).


5. Pineapple teriyaki chicken with fresh roasted vegetables-- Just a few points for the sugar and oil in the marinade (sometimes I just track this as grilled chicken and other times I could it as 2 points).


6. Pumpkin mac and cheese with a side of broccoli (or salad!).-- Just 4 points. 


7. Weight Watchers American Chop Suey-- I now make this with whole grain pasta and it's just 4 points per serving!


8. Turkey (or chicken!) tetrazzini in the crockpot; I use Momfessionals recipe for a crock pot version with a few tweaks to make it fewer points (I sub out laughing cow cheese wedges for the cream cheese and leave out the shredded mozzarella altogether) and almost always serve it with a side of broccoli. Just 1 point per serving!!  


9. Shrimp carbonara (made with egg sauce not cream)-- I loosely based my recipe on this one; leaving out the bacon entirely and adding in peas and mushrooms. The only thing in this recipe with points is the peas and the parmesan cheese so it's very low in points per serving.  



10. Stuffed acorn squash-- made with 99% Lean ground turkey and loaded with veggies the only thing that has points is the cheese.  Depending on what type of cheese I use this whole 1/2 of the stuffed squash usually runs just 2-4 points.


Though I am trying a few new Weight Watchers meals this week and I already think they're going to make it onto my next favorites list!

  1. I've never tried WW recipes before but several that you mention here look really good. I think I'll try a few of them- the shrimp carbonara, chicken orzo and Tuscan chicken pasta all sound like things my family and I would love. Thanks for the inspo and recipes!

  3. That's cool that you can eat whole grain pasta on your plan. I always find I gain weight if I eat any pasta!

    1. Yep all plans now include whole grain pasta, brown rice, and potatoes of all kinds. I don't treat them quite the same as zero point fruits and veggies and try to only eat one of them each day and make sure to measure out a cup using an actual measuring cup once it's cooked (or 1 potato). I am thrilled I didn't have to give up my favorite carbs and still can lose weight.

  7. I was just talking with my cousin this weekend about how grains are misunderstood. There's a school of thought that they shouldn't be as major in our diets. We still eat them, but try to limit them to once a day if we can. I always wonder if it would make a difference,

    1. I don't think they should make up the bottom of our food pyramid either... that is thinking (I feel) that is leftover from days where food was more scarce and grains go a long way to feeding many.
