June's 10 on the 10th... on the 9th.

I wasn't going to join in with the 10 on the 10th this month since I've been trying to take a huge step from blogging this summer but when I saw that all the questions were centered around vacations I just couldn't help myself!  I LOVE everything about vacations-- the planning, the packing, seeing new places, exploring or resting, eating new foods, spending time with the family, I even love reading about other people's vacations.

Here are the questions for this month's 10 on the 10th and while I'm probably repeating myself from other blog posts I hope you don't mind too much.

1. Are you planning to take a vacation anytime soon? Please share! Yes, actually we have 3 trips planned this summer!  My husband and I leave Friday morning for a little weekend away in New Hampshire with the boys holding down the fort at home.  Then in July we're heading to the Smoky Mountains for a vacation with my sister and her family.  Then just before school starts we'll finally be putting our Disney/ Universal tickets from 2020 to good use.

We're hoping to eat at Flapjacks again; it was a delicious breakfast

2. Have you recently gone on vacation? Please tell us about it. Our last vacation was last October when my husband and I took another quick weekend trip to New Hampshire.

3. What is your favorite way to travel? I don't think I really  have one... I like feeling like we are more in control of our schedule when we drive but do like the convenience of flying.  In all honesty I don't enjoy the travel portion of going on vacation at all. I'm usually feeling pretty stressed until we reach our final destination and get all settled in.

4. If money were no object where would you go and why? Oh this is so hard.... I have so many places on my dream bucket list but it would definitely be someplace tropical like Bora Bora, Hawaii, the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. I just love that calming blue green ocean water and those palm trees!

5. Who would be your favorite person (living or dead) to take on vacation? That's easy! My husband.  We have been so lucky to have had some really fabulous weekend getaways too no matter how old (or young!) our kids are/were.  (read about some of our favorite weekend getaways here)

Though my family-- meaning my boys, my mother in law, my mother & sisters would all easily top my list too.  In fact I'm toying with the idea of planning a weekend getaway with my mom and sisters for this fall.

6. What do you absolutely have to pack when you go on vacation? Since clothing varies widely by season and destination the few things that are ALWAYS with me are my camera, some books (or my Kindle filled with books), an itinerary, and my sunglasses.

7. What are your memories of your all time favorite vacation? I don't think I could possibly narrow it down to one all time favorite vacation! That is so hard.  I have so many wonderful memories of vacation taken throughout my whole life.  I even wrote a post summarizing all the trips my husband and I have taken starting back in 1994! (You can read that post here)

8. Where would you never ever go on vacation and why? Hmm... Antarctica is much too cold to ever make it onto my vacation list... but other than that I think travel destinations tend to vary by my mood and what kind of vacation I'm looking for.  Sometimes I just want to sit by a pool or the ocean and relax, other times I want to hike and explore.

9. What is the worst thing you ever experienced on vacation? When Ian was just over a year old and I was already pregnant with Alec we took Ian on a short little trip to New Hampshire to Storyland and Santa's village.  He got sick part way through our trip and had his first febrile seizure; not knowing what was happening when he started convulsing in his car seat and foaming at the mouth we panicked.  Luckily the ER nurse immediately diagnosed it correctly and I remember my mother in law having warned me that her side of the family a huge history of them so once we knew we were able to calm down but that was definitely one of the worst moments I can ever remember from a vacation.

10. What is the best thing that ever happened to you on vacation? My husband and I got engaged while on vacation so I'd have to go with that.

  1. I did this today too! Bora Bora is on my dream list as well. People getting sick on vacation is the worst!

    1. Yep, that's why we missed our Disney 2020 trip; we had two people sick in the house the week leading up to our departure date and I was so worried someone else was going to get sick upon arrival... oh if only I had known!

  2. Fun! I don't know if we will take any vacations this summer since my husband is working away. I don't know about taking five kids alone and being pregnant...maybe we will take a vacation where he is!

    1. Yeah, I don't think I'd be up for that either. In fact I don't think I have ever taken a trip with the kids by myself (other than a quick day trip)

  6. Love this post Joanne! Hubby & I haven't had a real vacation since 2010!
    So, well overdue!
I like driving to our destination as hubby & I both enjoy driving & the journey along the way.
The most interesting holiday was in Tasmania, Australia!
And the destinations I'd like to go, if money was no object, are the Isle of Man, Scotland & Ireland to see my heritage.
    Blessings,
    Jennifer

    1. I have heard wonderful things from friends and family that have traveled to Scotland and Ireland; that would make a wonderful trip. I always offer to drive but my husband seems to prefer driving; I don't mind looking around though!

    1. We had some really fabulous and quick responses from ER personnel with each of his febrile seizure trips (sadly that one on vacation was just the beginning).

    1. I always say the best part of blogging is getting to armchair travel; though it does always add to my "must see" list of places.

  11. I enjoyed your answers!!! Sounds like you have some fun trips planned. I'm going to have to check out some of your links. Yah, I don't think Antarctica would be fun either.

    1. Funny enough we met a guy while hiking this weekend who was talking about his trip to Antarctica (where he took the polar bear plunge!) and I was thinking... "nope!" the whole time he was talking. LOL

  15. Weren't Marsha's questions fun? I really enjoyed reading about other gals' vacations and daydreaming about vacations I would like to take.
We have started doing Supernatural virtual reality workouts. Have you heard of Supernatural or the VR goggles - Oculus? I have a feeling your boys probably have some. Anyway, the workouts are set in beautiful locations. So yesterday I exercised in Thailand and Iceland. Not as fabulous as going there in person but still a lot of fun.

    1. I have not heard of either Supernatural and while I know what VR Goggles are we don't own any; that sound fun though. I often pick workouts on Youtube that take place in rainforests or on beaches.
