Sentence a Day in July

July was so much fun! Between celebrating the 4th of July, my birthday, two mini trips to Maine and even getting to eat INSIDE a few restaurants life was actually beginning to feel just a bit normal.  A bit...  We also had a very long heatwave with little to no rain and spent much of our time cooling off in the water. 



1.  By the end of almost a full week of rain, we decided to take our books outside to read in what little bit of sun shown through the gloom throughout the day.



2. We took in an early morning kayak ride before the rains came.




3.  Alec and I spent a part of our day preparing foods for the fourth of July weekend while my husband took the other two boys to get haircuts. (Raspberry Cheesecake Bites Recipe, Lime Pie Recipe)




4. We spent the whole day at the cottage with the family having a nice big cookout by the lake with lots of fun and fireworks.





5. All the local families agreed to meet back up at the cottage and finish off the food which turned into another full day at the lake!





6. Ian fixed up our beach while the younger boys and I read our books on the patio.

7. Alec had his first karate class after the dojang shut down for the virus; they're meeting outside as much as possible while the weather allows.



8. My mom and I went shopping and out to lunch-- I love my new Vera Bradley bag!

9. I spent my morning making cards and running errands.




10.  The younger boys and I worked to clean part of the house and then played card games.

11.  The boys and I went to a birthday party for a friend of theirs; it was so fun!





12.  My husband threw me a birthday party and I was completely spoiled.



13. I kept my husband company on a couple of jobs he had to do in Maine and we stayed overnight in Freeport.





14.  We spent a day in Freeport/Kittery/York Maine shopping and enjoying the sights.




15.  I got my annual perm; it's super curly for a few days until I wash it and it relaxes but this system helps me only have to go once a year and still keep my hair nice and wavy!



16. Alec and I spent part of our morning going through the freshman orientation stuff his school sent us trying to decide what to do this fall as far as schooling goes.

17.  I met up with Alec's girlfriend's mom at the local Target to drop Alec off with them for the day and squeezed in some shopping while I was there.

18. My husband and I drove back to Maine so he could finish off the job he started earlier in the week and picked up a new (to us) Ranger at the same time.



19.  It was in the 90's so we spent a quiet day at home cooling off in the lake-- it was warm enough that even I went in which is quite rare.



20. I spent my morning getting Alec's uniform ordered and learning about his class schedule (such as it is right now) then Evan and I went for a walk and to visit with my mom and then my mother in law.



21. Alec had karate in the park and I settled on my blanket in the shade with a good book to read.




22. Our heat wave continued and we spent part of our day at the cottage so the boys could swim and visit with family.



23. I finished up my latest book and ran to the library to pick up another book that was on hold for me.

24.  The boys and I went on a nice long hour and a half walk along the river trail before spending the afternoon eating lunch and visiting with my mom at her campsite.



25. We ate dinner at Five Guys; a new restaurant for 3 of us.



26.  My husband and I went kayaking together in the afternoon; just the two of us.




27. I never thought my day would include taking care of chickens!



28.  Alec had karate in the park again this morning and we ran a few errands when he was done; I made sure to wear light layers as it has been HOT but still ended up cooling off in the lake.



29. We went to check out the local sunflower farm before cooling off in the lake in the afternoon.







30.  Alec met up with one of his first karate teachers and a friend to practice karate at a park while Evan and I walked around and around getting our exercise while visiting with his friend's mom.  



31.  I spent my morning visiting with my mom at her trailer and then after lunch the boys and I spent the day in the lake; even swimming over to the cottage to see my mother in law.

    1. Me too! That has always been one of my favorite places. My first solo vacation with my husband was in York and that was our first family vacation with a baby too!

  2. Wow, what a great way to document the month! So many good things, but LL Bean and that chocolate covered cheesecake bite may have been my favorites. I may have to give this a try!

  4. Looks like you all are having an amazing summer!! Kayaking, swimming, sunflowers! Love it! I've had a few sunflower plants I planted back in the spring and they are still super short and not blooming. :/ I love your hair and the Ranger.. how fun!

    1. I had a hydrangea bush that just bloomed for the first time in 16 years this summer. I had all but given up hope with it.

  9. I have enjoyed summer through your lens and words!! These photos are stunning. All of the lake fun! Love the blue and gray outfit. And your freshly permed hair. I haven't had a perm in years. Have naturally wavy hair but the wave is softer than ever. Wonder if a perm would give me more body and volume? How fun to take care of the chicks.

    1. Thank you! We have been having lots of lake fun. I was born with ringlet type curls that I've slowly lost through the years and barely have any wave left. The perm definitely gives me more body and volume.
