Glittery St. Patrick's Day Wood Block Sign

I am joining up with Bling on the Crafts once again!

On the first Monday of each month, a group of DIY and crafty bloggers join forces to bring you the #BlingontheCrafts blog hop. Each blogger creates a glittery, sparkly, shiny, shimmery, sequined, or "blingy" craft to share that goes with a monthly theme.

February's theme is Luck/ St. Valentine's Day. Each blogger chooses their own craft to make as long as it shines and is holiday themed.

I don't normally decorate for St. Patrick's Day but after looking round on Pinterest I decided to make a fun wood block craft using scrapbooking paper and my Circut.

It was such a fun and easy project!  Plus the blocks are reversible (but I won't be revealing what's on the back side until next month; so be sure to come back for our Spring themed craft on March 5th!).

My husband offered to cut and sand all the blocks for me once I gave him some measurements.

All of the blocks are 1 1/2 inches thick and we figured we needed:

2 at 4" by 2"

2 at 3 1/2" by 2"

2 at 3" by 2"

and 1 at 5" by 1 1/2"

Next I went rummaging through my scrapbooking papers looking for a few printed pages that looked nice together.  It took me a while to find some complimentary patterns and I finally settled on these:

I cut my papers to size and made sure I liked the arrangement I had before I glued all of the papers to the blocks using Elmer's Glue All.  I put a think coat of glue on the wood, attached the paper, and then put another fine coat of glue over the top.

I set all my wood pieces aside to dry and using my computer and Circut I designed the letters I wanted to be cut out.  I made sure each letter was just a bit smaller than my woodblock and then cut out the letters on glitter cardstock.  I had wanted to use glittered vinyl but couldn't find just the right shade to compliment my patterned paper.

Honestly, the hardest part was gluing the letters onto the wood.  They bubbled up in a few places and didn't seem to want to stick in others.  As you can see I slathered the glue on in a pretty thick coat hoping that would help.

I did like the final look and the glitter does shine nicely in the sun. I was so pleased with how well the papers matched our wall color too; that had not been planned.

  1. This is adorable. The paper is so cute and matches perfectly. I've always thought about making one these block signs. I can't wait to see the other side.

  3. You'd think with an Irish husband we would do something for St Paddy's day but we never have :( I love your art though so maybe now is the time to change?

    1. We never have before either... of course we're not Irish either but I did find myself contemplating a few shamrock purchases at the Dollar Store the other day. I really think I'd like to start decorating for more holidays than just Christmas and Easter.
