Evolution of a Painting
I've been painting since I was 5 years old so much of what I do I tend to do without much thought. I tend to paint from back to front, less detail to more detail.. I thought I'd try to show you.
I always start by painting the background; for this particular painting the background was the whole square (for most landscape paintings its just the sky).
If I didn't already loosely sketch it in, next I draw the main subject of the painting.
Then I start painting from back to front-- in this case the branches. I add all shades while the paint is wet then I added the berries over the dried sticks.
Lastly I added highlights to the berries and painted in the leaves then signed it.

Thanks for sharing your process. It's always interesting to see how one does a creative endeavor.
ReplyDeleteThis was interesting to read. I've never tried painting and think it's neat to see the process. I don't know if you're on Instagram but my girls have a friend who is a painter (cbrookering on Insta) and I love watching how a painting comes together on her site. She mostly does big florals and they're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented! I think because my family is so good at art that I just rebelled and didn't even try. My mom and sister Kate - art teachers and talented themselves in painting and other media and my sister Molly is talented, too, and uses her art for things as an elementary teacher.
