Dorm Life 2026: Alec's Junior Year
Alec's drop off was on Saturday and we knew with his giant pile it was going to take both of our cars to get all his stuff there. He needs his car on campus anyway since he opted to skip the dining plan entirely this year and just use the kitchen in the apartment him and his roommates picked out.
Alec's dorm this year isn't much different from last year's. In fact he's only one building over and 2 rooms down from where he spent last year. We were warned that Providence was braced for some severe weather on Saturday so we were just hoping it wouldn't be pouring when we arrived and that we could find parking close to his building for both cars. Thankfully the weather held out and parking was nice and close. It's always a whirlwind process getting the car(s) emptied out, walking up those 3 flights of stairs over and over, and then moving the cars into a longer term parking lot but we did it and then settled in to help him unpack.
We had a few hiccups with a broken shower curtain rod and his closet door was off it's track. Luckily my husband could fix the second and Alec put in a replacement request for the first. But that meant his bathroom was still not put together when we left.

We put together his new plant stand for the living room. But most of the common spaces were a mess when we left as no one wanted to tackle the kitchen alone and take over so they were all waiting for a time they could work together to get it done.
He's so excited to be sharing this apartment with 3 friends this year and they already have grand plans to make a huge "back to school" dinner with a bunch of their friends using lots of ingredients Alec picked up in Greece with this plan in mind.
Alec's move in time was 10 am and we were leaving Providence by 2 or so (most of that time was spent on lunch). But we knew we'd see Alec again on Sunday since he forgot his culinary jackets hanging in his closet (he thought they were in the bag already but that turned out to be his aprons and chef hats).

It sounds like everything worked out well! Are there not elevators in his building? Just curious. Alyssa is on either the second or third floor (I can't remember which!) and we used the elevator because we had huge bins to take stuff up in. But when it was just us without a lot of things, we used the stairs as it was quicker to use the stairs. The plant stand looks really nice! How fun to have plans already to use skills and ingredients learned in Greece!

DeleteNice place and it seemed like it was pretty smooth! That kitchen is really decent for college students, and I love the meal idea! So fun! I hope he has a great year!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! They even have a dishwasher, washer, dryer, etc. all right in their unit.

ReplyDeleteI think so too. He enjoyed cooking and menu planning last year and has more free time this year (well, this semester anyway) so he even brought most of his baking supplies "for fun."
DeleteLooks like a nice student apartment and its great that he will be with friends! Cute plant stand! My son decided he loved baby-ing plants in college and has continued that in his apartment, sending me photos of his gardening success, ha.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Alec even added plant cultivation and plant bio classes to his schedule. I felt bad that he really didn't get to eat much out of the garden he planted this spring but we're really enjoying his tomatoes now.
DeleteThis look similar to Gabbie's on campus apartment from last year. She did a good deal of cooking at home and plans to do the same this year as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah Alec had the smallest meal plan possible last year just in case but felt pretty confident going without this year. He enjoyed cooking his own meals.

ReplyDeleteYep, on campus. He had lucked out 2 years in a row to get to live there. Luckily they are only 3 floors and we really only feel it on move in and move out day.
DeleteI am glad the move in for Alec went well apart from the few hiccups. The plant stand looks great and so does his room! How exciting to be sharing with his friends. I imagine there is going to be a lot of delicious food eaten over the year.

DeleteThat's a pretty size kitchen for a dorm, as we know it anyway. He must be very lucky with that.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a great sized kitchen and they have a nice little living area as well as 2 full bathrooms. He really did luck out.
