Prime Purchases Lately

It's been a few months since I've done a Prime Purchases post, since April, in fact. And boy have I been buying A LOT. Between Evan's dorm things (that I'll share soon I promise!), all the clothes and things Alec needed for Greece, and the household items I've needed that Amazon truck has been making pretty frequent stops at our house.

 Household:

Birdseed-- this time of year we go through a lot and I like this brand/variety.

 Bathroom cleaner

Laundry detergent

Swiffer heavy duty cloths-- these are my favorite swiffer pads ever.

Dishwasher detergent

Graduation gift book-- this adorable book holds gift cards/money.

This outdoor rug for our deck

This outdoor rug for our patio

Alec's clothes and travel items: Since he pretty much needed all new summer clothes it's a long list! Right off the bat we were looking for extra tall/long items in fabrics that were breathable in the hot weather and that would be moisture wicking/quick drying for when he has to do laundry in the hotel rooms sinks. He'll be gone for 3 1/2 weeks but only is allowed one suitcase and one day pack so laundry is a must. He also wanted clothes that had that beachy/Mediterranean vibe-- I think we did pretty good!

We ordered these linen blend pants in 2 colors-- they came in a 38 inseam so we thought they'd fit & they did!

These golf pants also came in a 38 inseam and he needs "dressy" pants for the wineries & cathedrals they are visiting. He was thrilled that they are actually a little bit long-- that never happens.

It was suggested that he buy some laundry detergent sheets to do laundry in his hotel room sink. So I found these.

We bought these hiking shorts with a 9" inseam in 2 colors

We also bought these shorts in 2 colors

We bought these dressier golf shorts in a 9" inseam

He needed a new belt and we ended up ordering 2-- this one in black for my husband and this one in brown for Alec. We all like this click style.

He needed new shoes but with size 15 we're very limited. He found these sneakers

And he tried these two pair of sandals-- a close toed variety and an open toed one.

Unfortunately while they were very well made and nice they did not fit him.  Larger shoes tend to run really wide and he has a very narrow foot.

He needed socks so we tried two different types and styles. Men's socks don't seem to come much larger than a size 14 so we weren't sure which would fit better but both are made with merino wool for that quick drying feature.

We tried these

and these.

With a bunch of light colored shorts and pants (the colors not shown are all shades of light gray, light tan, etc). We thought some white underwear would be better than his standard black. I also found these that are moisture wicking/quick drying.

We bought an adapter plug; since this trip is for school credit he needs to bring his laptop for assignments as well as needing to keep his phone charged.

We bought him a whole bunch of new shirts. Since they are short sleeve I mostly focused on finding XL and didn't worry so much about the "tall" that he NEEDS when it comes to long sleeve shirts (does anyone know of a brand of men's clothes that makes extra tall? Even most XL Talls only reach his forearms and not his wrist).

 Button down style #1

Button down style #2-- we bought this in 2 colors

Henley style #1

Henley style #2

Then finally a more casual style merino wool t-shirt

Then he had an online meeting with the teacher/organizer and she had some more suggestions. Things like:

A day pack-- basically a smaller backpack with lots of pockets so he picked out this one.

A packable duffle bag in case he needs extra packing room for the way home.

A neck pillow for sleeping on his overnight flight.

A towel for the beach/pool-- We bought one of the Turkish towels (thanks for the idea Jen!)

And lastly, a fan. I was picturing one of the battery operated ones but Alec wanted an old school bamboo/silk one and picked this one.

Some "just for fun" purchases for me:

Travel jewelry case-- I like this one so much better than my last one!

I have this necklace in rose gold and just love it so I ordered it in silver too though it is slightly different in design.

These pants

This shirt

 This shirt

 This scarf

My favorite deodorant

And finally this top

I also bought these adorable flip flops

and since my old phone case cracked I picked out this one-- I just LOVE the color

  1. Lots of good purchases! I didn't realize Alec was so tall and that his feet are really big. How wonderful to be able to find things easily online that you can take back if they don't work. His upcoming trip sounds amazing and the clothes you got him should be perfect for when he's there.

    1. Yeah he grew another few inches since he started college. I truly hope he's done growing now. The sneakers fit perfectly but the sandals were much too big and the ones he ended up buying were just a 13. I think his culinary shoes are a 13 too so maybe sneakers just run small?

  2. I love that scarf! I use the seventh generation laundry sheets and have been happy with them.

    1. Thanks! I haven't worn that scarf yet but I thought the print was just too cute.

  3. I use all the same cleaning supplies as you do! I will have to look into that birdseed. I add that to my Kroger pick up. I am very serious about keeping my seed stocked for my birdies (and squirrels).
Old Navy carries tall. Have you tried them for Alec? I bought a fun short sleeved button up for work for Mason.

    1. Old Navy does have a few pants that come in 38 inseam that aren't jeans... though just a few and none in his waist size (probably because they sell our fast-- plus they were just about the same price if not a bit higher). Alec does not wear jeans of any kind ever. Short sleeve tops he's okay with an XL in any brand as his length issue is only really with the arm. I swear he needs an x-tall for long sleeves though as even his XL tall shirts don't make it to his wrists.

  4. Alec made great choices in his clothing! I love that he wanted lighter summer blends and colors; I think that might make a difference in staying cool. I had no idea he wore so large a shoe! Holy cow, I'm sure it's very difficult to find shoes to fit him. He makes my sons seem standard with their sizes 12 and 13! You got some great purchases too! I love those pink pants and the denim shirt...that would be a cute paring with that polka dot scarf. I can't wait to see them on you!

    1. I loved that he wanted to look "like a local and not a tourist." I think having those fabrics and colors will help keep him cooler too. He did end up with size 13 sandals and culinary shoes but definitely needed the 15 in the sneakers.

    1. I went searching on Amazon and put things I thought he might like or should consider onto a wishlist for him and then let him go through and pick which ones he wanted to order in what colors/patterns/ etc.

    1. Yep, it was A LOT but he really had nothing left that fit. He grew at least a few inches since college had started. Hopefully he's done growing now.

  10. Dang...this was a huge haul over the month. I remember when Amazon first came out with clothes, and we pooh-poohed it. Now it's normal.
