Photos from Alec's Greece Trip; Days 1-3

Alec traveled to Greece with a group from his college as a mini-study abroad program. This was a culinary based trip for course credit (which included written assignments and course work to be completed before and during the trip). While they had a set itinerary they were responsible for getting themselves to and back home from Greece on their own.

We dropped Alec at Boston airport on Monday June 15th in the late morning. He had an overnight, direct flight into Athens and had discovered that at least a half dozen other students were on the same flight as him. They arrived in Athens 7 am on Tuesday the 16th (midnight our time). He sent me photos of sunrises over Athens from the plane that one of his friends took.

They were picked up from the airport in the afternoon and got settled at their hotel in Athens. Then did some sight seeing.

I got this group photo from him at 9:30 (his time in Athens) saying they had just finished their first big dinner of the trip. He was completely exhausted though as he had only slept a single good hour since we had dropped him off at the airport. Later, once he arrived home I got to see what they ate-- the Greek salad starts nearly every meal with fresh vegetables, olive oil, and a chunk of feta then lots of pasta and meat and/or rice. It sounds like he ate so well the whole week (though he didn't take many photos of his meals).

I don't know why my photos are loading all weird and out of order again..

The next day, Wednesday, they checked out many of the historical sites around Athens. I think he said they spent something like 12 hours exploring & walking and much of that was in in the sun and heat without great access to water either so a few people really started feeling rather awful by nightfall.

Mostly, while he was gone, Alec just sent me a variety of photos with no real words explaining what they had seen. I didn't mind as I knew he really didn't want to be texting/on his phone much with anyone and just enjoying his trip. We ate breakfast together the morning after he got home and he filled me on so much more... most of which I remember enough to share with you.

First Olympic Stadium

They took quite a lot of photos in the stadium, some group, some of different people posing on the thrones for the king and queen, and some of various people on the medal stands.

They had a food demonstration and got to try making these triangular pastries with cream filling.

They ended each evening with a "family meal."
