Acadia Main 2026 Trip; Day #3

Breakfast was yummy cinnamon buns, with fruit/yogurt/granola and some banana crepes with bacon that I forgot to take photos of since I only ate the bacon. No bananas for me... and even if I had removed the bananas the syrup tasted like the bananas and they crepes were filled with what basically tasted like whipped cream (which I also don't like). BUT I was plenty filled with just this and ready to hike.

We elected to hike near Long Pond we took the Cold Brook Trail to the Razorback Trail to the Great Notch Trail to the Great Pond Trail... it was nearly 5 miles and oh so buggy.

not something you see on the trail every day

See the "Deere" on the trail?

It's hard to see but pretty much ALL of the Razorback trail was a rocky climb up and up and up.

Can you see all the stone stairs we climbed?

Thankfully the view from the top was incredible.

Eventually we started our way down the Great Notch trail. It was much flatter but filled with mosquitoes.

As we started getting closer to the pond the mosquitoes got even worse.. but we got to listen to the babbling brook that must have helped keep the pond full.

As we arrived at the pond the wind picked up and the mosquitoes died down.

We saw some deer in the field on our way out.

We went back to our hotel, showered, then walked to Beals Lobster for lunch. We had views of the marina and enjoyed hot buttered lobster rolls with fries.

After that we decided to get in the car and drive the scenic park loop through Acadia; something we hadn't done since our first trip. I don't have many photos though as they made most of the scenic park loop a one way road and all the "good" stuff was on the driver's side of the car.

We ended in Bar Harbor, did a bit of shopping and then headed to dinner at Paddy's Irish Pub and Restaurant. I had chicken Caesar salad.

We stopped for ice dream in southwest harbor before settling in at our hotel/B&B for the night. I got Maine Black Bear ice cream-- vanilla ice cream with raspberry swirls and raspberry filled chocolate mini cups.

  1. My son is heading up to Hancock, Maine as I write this comment for a music festival. I so badly want to visit him and see Acadia. These pics look amazing.

  2. I just went back and caught up on your Acadia trip. I'm sorry the B/B changed hands. I'm sure that was disappointing.Looks like you had some great hikes though and the views are amazing all over Acadia. We stayed in the Bar Harbor Inn one year for a couple of nights and enjoyed the cliff walk. There's some gorgeous homes up there. We stayed in a B/B in town and it was nice. That raspberry/chocolate swirl combo in a cone is my favorite flavor.

    1. Aw, thank you! We did miss our favorite innkeepers but had a lovely time regardless.

  3. It looks so pretty and do I recall you getting this flavor of ice cream before in Maine? I know you've mentioned flavors before and they all sound so good! I want a lobster roll really badly now... The views look worth the climb!

    1. Yep, Gifford's is the brand most Maine ice cream places stock up with and they have some of the best flavor pairings. I'm always excited to see Maine Black Bear on the menu.

  4. That homemade cinnamon roll looks so good. I make mini ones out of Crescent Roll dough but that one looks amazing.
I had a chance to get a lobster roll Wed. night and now I wish I had. We have a lobster roll food truck here. I'm sure it's not as good, though!

    1. It was a delicious cinnamon roll; I rarely make "real" ones at home since they can be a lot of work and I have no self control when it comes to warm cinnamon rolls.

    1. I'd say I easily walked away with a dozen of them.. everywhere from the crown of my head, forehead, wrists, legs... luckily they were only super itchy for a day or two.

  8. Oh wow! That looks like another delicious breakfast and a wonderful hike. That view was worth climbing all the stone stairs. Fantastic photos!

    1. It was worth all those stone stairs but I was definitely muttering under my breath about hating hiking at that point. LOL

  9. A Deere on the trail! Nice one! And a lobster roll? Divine :). I have hiked with mosquitos many times, it is not fun, but your views seemed like they were worth it. And the climb!

    1. It's a good one. Lobster tracks is another favorite of mine (it has nothing to do with actual lobster) but it's much harder to find.. as I've only managed to have it once in all my trips up to Maine.

  13. Cinnamon rolls are one of the best ways to start the day! I don’t like bananas, either…not the flavor, smell, or texture. Your hike looked like such a beautiful day. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos!

  14. I really love the "craggy-ness" and "woods-iness" of the trail you hiked! What a view from the top! The hike looked strenuous and all that delicious food afterward was the perfect reward.

    1. It was definitely strenuous but I do like to think that means I earned a good meal afterwards. And I get to eat it all guilt free.

  15. The views are incredible. Do I say that all the time, LOL? Totally different than what we see daily, so it really creates a contrast.
And mosquitoes...luckily we don't have those much either.

  18. Fantastic views! I once chuckled through a forest with a gorgeous blue pond. I stopped to look at it, but it wasn't blue for nothing. I was surrounded by all kinds of insects and had huge bites when I arrived home, lol. Lesson learned.

    1. Weirdly this trail had far more mosquitoes in the valley but around the pond was was fine... either way I was covered with bites when we arrived back at the car.

  19. I have never known anyone who didn't like whipped cream before :) that's a first. You always post the most delicious looking food. Sorry about the mosquitos. I still have nightmares of a couple of hikes where there were so many mosquitoes all the bug spray in the world didn't help. They were ruthless. I sure hope to get to Acadia some day!

    1. I know! I'm unusual like that but I really don't like much dairy and to me whipped cream tastes mostly like milk; just airier.

  20. I love that you are so making the most of your trip. Well, mosquitoes and bugs not withstanding! I can't hike nearly so far but I can see why you love it -- it's gorgeous.

  22. All your beautiful photos are making me want to go back to Maine! It's been 8 years since we were there. We went before our first grandchild was born, using the lighthouses as a metaphor for thinking about the kind of grandparents we wanted to become.

  23. I am absolutely stuffed from dinner but seeing your delicious ice cream makes me want some. YUM. Hope you were wearing bug spray on your hike. That was quite the rocky trail and elevation increase. The lobster roll look delish. I really love seafood and we so rarely have it.

    1. Oh yes, I was literally spraying myself with bug spray every 10 or so steps. Luckily the bugs were really only bad at that one portion of the trail.

  24. Another full day with beautiful views! My husband and I spent last week hiking in Michigan's upper peninsula and there was one day that the mosquitos overwhelmed us! I was so glad when the wind picked up!

    1. That's how we felt. We were so thankful for the cooler lake breezes that did a better job keeping the bugs away. That notch/valley walk seemed endless with all the mosquitoes.

  25. Thank you for taking me along on your hike through your pictures. Oh my, all those stones to climb! The lobster roll lunch was a great reward and the ice cream cone after dinner, would’ve been the flavor of my choice! Yum!!
