Talking About it Tuesday #120

We arrived home Saturday night and I'm busy playing catch up this week. We had a lovely vacation--of course not every moment was perfect. Alec was fighting off a cold most of the week, my husband and I had some pesky admin/tax stuff to deal with that cropped up late in the afternoon the day before we were leaving so that came with us, we learned that Alec was accused of writing his final paper using AI and got a zero (despite not having used AI at all-- but how do you prove that?!).. luckily his grades are super high so even with the zero he walked away with a B but what a disappointment! We consoled ourselves with beautiful scenery, delicious food, and once in a lifetime types of hikes. My recaps will start tomorrow-- all of the posts are very photo heavy between both mine and Evan's photos. 
 
How was your week? Being in a different time zone kind of threw off my blogging schedule but I decided to just not worry about it. I will eventually get around to visiting everything you linked up last week. In the meantime I used a handy random number generator to pick this week's features.

    Ugh to the cold (I was dealing with one last week as well) to those horrible accusations. I'm glad it didn't impact his grades too badly but how stressful to be accused of that. Can't wait to see pictures of Utah and read about your hikes!! Thanks for the link up!

    Sorry about the Zero for your son. That´s the problem with AI...you never really know if it was or is used . I think that is a terrible development. We had a fine weekend with an Tango Argentino festival. Have a good time and all the best

    Ah oui c'est très intéressant cette affaire d'IA bien que très déplorable pour votre fils, mais la suspicion va devenir courante. Il m' est arrivé sur mon blog de recevoir des commentaires très intelligents à propos d'une citation de Milena Jesenska de la part de compagnies aériennes. Nous vivons dans un monde de plus en plus absurde. Entre l'intelligence artificielle et la connerie toutà fait naturelle de certains dirigeants la voie est étroite

    Oh, that's so horrible about Alec's paper...yes, how do you prove that? This whole AI thing has sure made education a challenge. We've had problems with our taxes too and are trying to work it out but we can't get through to anyone on the phone so we're really frustrated. Thanks for the party.

    Thanks for featuring my April Reflections! That is horrible about your son's paper. It seems there should be some reliable way to prove a paper is not done by AI. I've read of people using AI detectors on well-known works and even books of the Bible which were labeled as AI when they were not. I know schools are in a tough spot, because most people aren't going to admit their work was done by AI. But, still, it's not right to false accuse students.

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. Currently in May 2026-- Utah Edition

 It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for Currently with Amy!  Digging – These views!!     Weeding – We weeded 2 bags of clothes from Alec's closet as he's outgrown so much of his clothes. Hopefully we can find replacements for most of it... though I'm not sure there is a whole lot we're going to find with even longer inseams.  Enjoying – Time spent exploring with the family. Eating/Drinking – All the vacation junk food.  bourbon burger yogurt bowl   brisket, sweet potato fries, and cornbread   triple chocolate mousse cake Shopping for – This week we're shopping for souvenirs only but once home we'll be buying Alec clothes.  He also needs to find some comfy size 15 or perhaps 16 sized shoes as his toes are poking out of this old size 14 sneakers. Plus I have a list of things I want to get for his Greece trip that will be here before I know it.

Ian is starting a new film study unit in our homeschool.  He loves watching movies and when I found the Thinking Tree Film Study Journal I just knew Ian would love the opportunity to watch movies as part of his homeschooling day. It's the first Thursday of the month and time for Share Your Shelf with Dara and I.  I hope you all look forward to this monthly link up as much as I do. I just love getting new ideas for books to read or listen to.   Oh wow did I ever have another fabulous month of reading/listening! I also ticked a lot more books off of my 52 book list (many of which happened completely by mistake-- which is really unusual when I've gotten so far into the list).  1. In Your Dreams by Sarah Adams (When in Rome book #4) -- This was a really cute finish to the series. I enjoyed reading about Madison and James working together to start a new restaurant on James' family farm. James has secretly been in love with Madison for years and had no plans to follow up on his brother's suggestion to open a restaurant until he heard from Madison and knew it would be the perfect way to get her to move back home.Madison barely finished her courses in culinary school and has been dying to ...

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning.
