Share 4 Somethings in May

Tomorrow is the last Saturday of the month and time for Share 4 Somethings with Jenn. This year we're sharing something we loved, something that sustained us, something we're carrying forward, and something we're making space for each month.

Something I loved:
Obviously I LOVED our trip to Utah at the start of the month! I'm sure you're getting sick of these photos by now... but too bad. LOL

Canyonlands:

Arches:

Capitol Reef:

Bryce Canyon:

Red Canyon:

Zion:

I've loved eating outside this month-- both in Utah and at home.

I loved some really beautiful sunsets and sunrises this month:

I LOVED our early anniversary dinner last weekend:

Something that sustained me: Oh we ate SO good this month! This is what has literally sustained me this month as well as lots of family time and tons and tons of great books.

 Something I'm carrying forward:
I've had to remind myself quite a few times this month that these moments are fleeting. I feel like so much of my house has been a mess-- we have piles of stuff waiting to go back to college with Alec, piles of things set aside for Evan to bring to college, my dining table was made into a mini greenhouse with all of Alec's starter seed/plants, there are shoes galore by the front door and almost always dishes in the sink (even when the dishwasher is empty and ready for dirty dishes)... I could yell and wail and make everyone miserable but I just remind myself that in a few years I'm going to miss all of this. The house will be empty before I know it and I really want to soak up these final few years-- annoyances and all.

Something I'm making space for: We got rid of some older/broken suitcases and made new for a couple new ones. I also finished swapping out my closet from fall/winter to spring/summer and got rid of another bag of clothing items.

  1. I can never get tired of the photos from your trip. I love them all and have really been enjoying reading your recaps, even though I’ve been a bit behind. You’re so right about enjoying the mess that comes with having a full house. I read somewhere that it’s important to remember we are living in the good old days right now. Have a great weekend! 2. We need new suitcases as well! It's not been a priority; it's something I really only think about when I'm packing and see the old suitcases! Your food pics all look so good! Yes, part of our house is in a state of storage/chaos but I do know that it's temporary. It will be so odd when all of the kids move out (post college) and we'll mostly just have their childhood things like toys I've saved and their school paperwork.

    1. Us too! I bought 2 new ones right before we left for Utah for the boys and next time we have to fly I plan to purchase two new ones for my husband and I. I didn't save any toys or paperwork so I think our house might just be really, really empty. We'll see... though I don't think any of them have plans to move out anytime all that soon.

  4. I felt the same way about all the stuff and now it's gone and it's sad. Lol. Well, they didn't do a good job cleaning out bedrooms or basement hang out room but the shoes and stuff laying around are now gone. Now it's dog toys everywhere.
You had a good food month!
I have not had a good reading month overall! Sad! I am going to the library today, though.

  5. I loved reading about your month! What a full one it was. Those pictures from your trip are absolutely stunning...but so are the ones of your own backyard lake and the sunset views. I feel so fortunate that we live in such a beautiful world! These are all things that sustain me...I always feel close to God at such moments. Thanks for linking up this month!

  7. Utah is definitely on my list of places to visit! We spent way too much money this May, so I am buckling down in June (after our vacation), with budget meals, and focusing on free outings!

    1. Yep, I'm hopeful after our week in Maine (and aside from college tuition bills!) we can tighten our financial belt as well.

    1. Okay-- that sounds really delicious to me as I can not remember the last time I had pizza and I've always like leftover pizza better than fresh.

  9. Your photos are just stunning, and I’m sure you can’t stop looking at them. You really do so well with good meal planning. I need to go to the library and get “real” books to see if that will snap me out of my reading slump.

  10. I've loved reading about your trip, and the pics are just stunning.
I hear you about embracing the chaos that comes with having the boys at home. These busy, messy, imperfect days will be the memories we treasure most!

  11. Share away, those pictures are just beautiful! As I can't travel anymore, I have to live vicariously through others.

    1. Thanks! It's not always easy but I don't want them to remember their last few years at home with mom nagging them all the time.

  13. Actually I loved your photos! I don't think I have seen them yet (I should pop in more often!) and would have missed them. What a great trip!! So many things to love this month!! Here's to a good June ahead as well!

  14. Your meals really do look outstanding this month! You are so right about savoring and not complaining about the chaos in your house. It is so quiet (and clean) in an empty nest house! I miss the stuff laying around!!

    1. Well... I don't know that I'll ever miss having stuff laying around but I sure will miss the curators of said messes.

  16. We went to Nevada this month and your pictures remind me of some of the things we saw. So stark and beautiful! It made me realize I should be more appreciative of the many hues of green surrounding me in Alabama! :) You're wise to realize that these moments are fleeting. Messes can be unsatisfying but so can untouched tidiness.

    1. Yes, we were definitely missing all the green by the end of our trip.

  17. Utah is one of my favorite states, so I can relate. All the food looks amazing. And I don't know how, but there are just three of us at home and my sink is ALWAYS full of dirty dishes. I think if your someone that cooks a lot, and always cooks from scratch, that is what you have to deal with. The only alternative is processed food, and we don't want to go there.

    1. Yeah, I'd much rather make things from scratch too.

  18. I love the reddish colour of the canyon rock and soil.

Will you see the movie that's out based on "The Hail Mary Project"? It was an option to read that novel for book club, but I went a different way this time.

Thanks for the virtual coffee, Joanne.

  22. How could we every get sick of those views! And indeed enjoy those last years.

  23. You are really making me want to visit Utah with all those gorgeous photos. And food def. does sustain us!! Esp extra good food! Ha ha! Oh, I know... I feel the summers bring a little chaos, but I am really trying to realize these moments are fleeting ones and to soak it up and let my little petty frustrations go!
