Share Our Lives: My Favorite Cleaning Products

It's the second Monday and time for Share Our Lives. The monthly link up where we share snippets of our lives.

This month we're talking about our favorite cleaning products.

I took photos of cleaning products as I used them and am sharing them in no particular order.

I use Dawn dish soap as a stain remover for our laundry. It works particularly well with kitchen oil/ salad dressing stains.  I don't, however, use it on our dishes.

This (or All Free & Clear) is our usual laundry detergent.

We use this in our dishwasher.

And this is what we use on our dishes when washing by hand (also what we use on our countertop and table).

I use white vinegar for so much-- I water it down to use on our floors in our refillable mop, I add 1 cup to the laundry when I want to remove odors (like with our towels). Cleans windows/glass without streaks, I mix it with salt and use it on weeds..

Baking soda is also used to boost laundry detergent. I sprinkle it in pans when I need to scrub them but can't use our chain mail scrubber as it adds a nice abrasive quality to the sponge.

Our refillable mop that I use the diluted vinegar in.

I don't really use this on glass surfaces but I do like to use it on our washer/dryer and other appliances.

Our toilet bowl cleaner; paired with a toilet brush or a pumice stone it keeps our toilets nice and bright white.

This 2-piece cleaning set is what I use on mirrors and my interior car windows. It is AMAZING! It just uses water and keeps them sparkling clean and completely streak free.

My favorite smelling bathroom cleaner.

I'm sure there are a few other products I've forgotten but these are the ones I use on a weekly basis.

I hope you join us next month when we'll be talking about our go to lunches on the go (I'm going to have a HARD time with this one!)

  1. That is really cool about the e-cloth and how well it does on glass. I'm intrigued and want to try it! Thanks for sharing your products.

  2. I found this so interesting to read, seeing different things you use to me in England. That is a good idea using dish soap as a stain remover. A Method spray is on my list too.

    1. I don't know where I had read/learned about dish soap but it works GREAT on clothes.

  3. I love that e cloth set, too! How awesome to just use water. I hate the smell of vinegar but do use it sometimes. Dawn for grease stains is like magic! I love Method, too. It smells so nice. Honestly, I think water or a damp cloth work so well for many things. I really do try not to use too many chemicals.

    1. Yes, I tend to use really watered down vinegar so it's not so smelly.

  4. Oh good stuff- writing these down-thanks for sharing!

  5. I read that a dry Magic Eraser is great to keep in your car to clear the inside windshield - I tried it and it works great. I love the fresh scents like mint, too. Also pine. Pure aromatherapy. (:

    1. Oh I never thought of that but I do keep a microfiber cloth in the car for the windshield and it works great.

  6. I can't get all these products but I do agree with you that dish soap is the best stain remover. I spilt orange soup on a white top recently and dish soap (Fairy not Dawn) did the job beautifully!

    1. When my son's roommate got dye from her new denim shorts on Alec's chef whites we soaked his uniform in a dish soap/ baking soda solution and they were sparkling white again in no time.

  7. I have a swifter which I guess is like the refillable mop!

  8. I'm interested in the e cloth. It looks like a good product for my mirrors. My mirrors always have streaks that I can't get out.

  9. Oh my cleaning lady also uses vinegar for the floors and windows. She did today. I hate the smell of it.

    1. I don't mind the smell but I water it down quite a bit so it's not smelly for very long.

  10. We use a lot of the same methods and products. But did not know so much about vinegar. Thanks for the tips! Hope you had a great time on your trip!!

  11. I love that you use vinegar for cleaning also. My grandma used to have this chart about how to use vinegar and at that time in my life, I didn't understand why you would use a food product for cleaning, LOL...and look at me now.

    1. Right?! Funny enough Walmart carries a white vinegar in their cleaning aisle that they labeled as "cleaning vinegar" and I just had to read the ingredient label to see what made it cleaning... it was just plain old distilled white vinegar.

  12. Oh, I enjoyed this. I will try some of the method bathroom product you shared and the toilet cleaner.

  13. I need to remember to use Dawn for clothing stains. I may re-evaluate my cleaning supplies once I move. Great post!

    1. Yes, it is fabulous for clothing stains. I had a shirt I was going to toss because it had a stain on it for as long as I could remember and I tried Dawn on it even knowing it was a pretty set in stain and it came out.

  14. We share lots in common here! I can't live without baking soda, either. I love Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser but don't use it on your face to remove Sharpie. (Courtesy of the hospital surgical staff.)!

    1. Oh boy, I can't imagine using Mr Clean Magic Eraser on my face! I have a hard time using it at all as I really do like the feel of the sponge itself... though it does work great on baseboards and shoes.

  15. I use Dawn for stain removal, too! So, why do you like Seventh Generation so much? I'm really curious as I'm considering trying a new dishwasher soap. Does it come in those little plastic packages? I may have to get some of those cleaning cloths. I have some from Norwex, but they always leave this funny little print behind.

    1. All their cleaning supplies are plant based using renewable resources and scented with essential oils so fairly chemical free for cleaning. The Dishwasher is in those little plastic packages but I do think they make "loose" dishwasher soap too if you prefer to pour it yourself.

  16. I always have baking soda at my disposal too. I love your box! I've not seen that brand before.

  18. I have the e-cloths and I love them for cleaning our sliding glass doors and front storm door. I use a lot of the same products that you do but I haven't tried the Method foaming tub and tile. I might check that out. I have to remember to use my vinegar more often. I use the Target up & up dishwasher detergent and really like it.

    1. I love the foaming tub and tile cleaner-- perhaps more because of the smell than anything else. LOL

  20. I've never tried Method or Seventh Generations brands, but I'll have to check them out! That Method foaming tub cleaner sounds really good... I've been looking for a good product to clean our tubs and showers with because I don't like what I use right now.

    1. Yeah, it's hard because I want a good clean but I don't want all those harsh chemicals... especially since we have a septic and so many cleaning supplies really aren't great for septic tanks.

  21. I use old school vinegar and baking soda for certain things too.
