Bloggers Weekend in Asheville Days 1 & 2
This was our 3rd annual bloggers weekend (year 1 was Nashville here, year 2 was Louisville here) and we planned to meet in Asheville, North Carolina. I was the only one flying in... and it was not easy finding flights into Asheville! My first day was spent traveling, as was everyone else's.
Jenn texted in the morning that she was sick and had to back out. We were all disappointed.
I left for the airport before lunch and landed in Asheville around 6:30 after a long layover in Atlanta. I walked the terminal to get in some extra steps and picked up a really delicious sandwich for a late lunch/ early dinner.
Maria had kindly offered to pick me up and we met up with the other ladies at our AirB&B that Marilyn found us by 7.
Marilyn and Tanya put out quite a spread and Maria added some goodies too. We started up until 11 or so talking and catching up.
The next morning I was up early so I curled up on the couch with my book after getting all ready for the day.
Marilyn had made some little goodie bags for us all too so she handed those out and we sat and talked and talked until noon time easily before deciding we should probably leave the house to go do something.

Maria was our driver for the day and drove us all up to Jump Off Rock at Laurel Park-- so named for an old Native American legend about a maiden who jumped off the rock upon learning that her lover was not going to return from war. It was lovely; the views were incredible!

We did a short .25 mile hike (me in my flip flops!) that did turn out to be a bit more rugged than we thought it was going to be.
We went to get some ice cream at Celtic Creamery (a small chain found in North Carolina that make ice cream the way they do in Ireland-- my family and I had eaten at one on our last family trip to Carolina beach).
After sitting and chatting a bunch we got back into the car and drove over to a little shopping area to check out a few stores. I bought a cute little pink/white summer crochet sweater top that I'll show on the blog just as soon as it warms up enough up here to wear it.
By then it was time to drop Joyce off so she could head home and we all settled on where to eat dinner. We decided to check out Sierra Nevada Brewing Company-- despite having been started in California (hence the name) they are hugely popular and I can see why. Our food was incredible with fresh farm to table/locally grown ingredients.

| I got their grass fed beef burger and wow! It was easily one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. |
After eating we walked the grounds and then checked out their self guided walking tour above the plant learning all about their beer making process. Even as a non-beer drinker I have to admit I've toured a few beer making facilities.

We went back to the AirB&B and stayed up talking until probably 10 o'clock or so while snacking on some more of Maria's brownies and cookies.

Great recap! It's neat to see what pictures others took- you got some good ones! I'm looking forward to seeing your pics of the Biltmore. I'm so bummed that I didn't get to see it!
ReplyDeleteI like seeing the different photos others took too and seeing what things each person picked up on or remembered.
DeleteYay! So glad you came & glad you could enjoy some of the snacks on your travel day. I love the picture of us and didn't have that on my camera roll! I agree, that burger was one of the best I have had. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I came too! I nearly talked myself out of it but my husband encouraged me to go and he was right; I would have regretted it if I hadn't.
DeleteLooks like fun! That burger is making me look forward to my GNO tomorrow night!

Thanks! I hope you have a wonderful GNO!
DeleteIt's been fun to see all the recaps. I'm so glad you got to Biltmore and I will look forward to reading about that. I've never seen the beer bottles lit but it is such a cool 'chandelier'. So great to meet you in person. I looked back at my blog to see when when we might have first connected and there was a comment from you in 2017 so it was at least that long.
ReplyDeleteOh wow; I would not have thought it was that long ago.
DeleteGreat pictures! I was impressed by the hiking in flip flops! I know how you love them and you are used to them. The burger looks great, the airbnb looks cute, and I love that you got to finally pull out your spring clothing!
ReplyDeleteHa, it was only .25 miles so it wasn't that tough (though it was not as smooth a trail as any of us pictured).
DeleteWhat a great recap! I missed being there so much, but I'm glad you all had such a great time. I laughed over the hike with you in your flip flops!
ReplyDeleteAw, we surely missed you too. We kept looking for our selfie master!
DeleteThis looks like such an amazing trip so far. Love the beer chandelier. (:
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteOh my gosh this is everything! Love seeing you all together having a wonderful time. How thoughtful of Joyce to put together bags of your personal interests- she is a true gem! Loving your outfits Joanne- so pretty and look perfect for traveling!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteLooks like a fun weekend, travel issues aside!
ReplyDeleteI'll always pick a long layover over a really short one; at least I didn't have to worry about missing my second flight!
DeleteThe air bnb looks nice! I love that Joyce brought you scrapbook supplies.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn does a great job finding us really cute places to stay.
DeleteIt's SO wonderful that you guys do this. I bet it's soup for the soul (like my knitting retreats used to be for me)
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Jodie
It really is!
DeleteIt sounds like you had the best trip with some fab ladies. The AirB&B looks wonderful, so homely. Jump Off Rock looks like a great place to visit, the views are stunning! The brewery tour sounds so interesting.
ReplyDeleteI really did!
DeleteHow lovely that you all go away together! I have an annual girls weekend but it's a former work collegue and we go to a festival. It's a blast tho!
ReplyDeleteOh I bet that is a lot of fun.
DeleteLooks like you had a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteWe really did!
DeleteWhat a fun time you are having (or had)! Asheville has so much to offer, too! Did you see much evidence of the floods?

There wasn't much sign at all in the areas we were staying in but I know everyone that drove was mentioning that some parts of the highway were still single lane.
DeleteHow fun!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteWow, how fabulous is such a trip. And what a good looking air bb. What a amazing time you all had. Looking forward to read more of the trip.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHow fun! I didn't even know there was an airport anywhere near Asheville. And I can't believe you went hiking in flip-flops! Brave girl!
ReplyDeleteIt is a tiny airport. I think I was at gate 8 and 6, 7, & 8 (or maybe it was 5, 6, & 7 and I left out of 7?) all shared the same door and you had to walk outside and onto the tarmac to board the plane. Though it is under construction so perhaps those will be "real" gates soon.
DeleteYou guys really lived it up. What a fun time together you had, and such great food and snacks too. The air B&B looks lovely and everything was so well planned out. So nice you got together to do this.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteJoanne, what a wonderful yearly get together will your friends. I enjoyed reading about everything you all did on this trip.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteI enjoyed reading your wrapup, and love all the photos you got of the brewery and the air bnb too. What an amazing trip - so glad we got to spend time together again.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am so glad we got to spend some more time together this year too.
DeleteI think it's so lovely when bloggers meet in real life! And I really like the beautiful inn you were staying.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I took the leap to meet these ladies in real life; it's made me more apt to reach out and meet others too. Marilyn always finds us the nicest places to stay.
DeleteThat's so fun! I love getting together with blogging friends in real life. Looks like you guys had a ball!!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! We really did have such a great time together.
DeleteThat looks like such a great time. Kind of jealous. How in the world did you keep those white pants clean. lol.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea!
