3 Things Thursday

I haven't done a 3 Things Thursday since November of 2023; I had hoped to make it a fairly regular thing but turns out coming up with 3 things to share about each of us at the same time is much harder than I thought. I also struggle with what to share about other family members now that the boys are all adults-- luckily mine don't seem to care all that much (unless it's photos and then they are quite vocal so I always check with them first). 

Ian

 1. Ian bought himself another piece of equipment for his business. It's fun watching him zip around in the skid steer to move snow piles around. I guess I should mention what his business is! He's started a hardscaping business. That means he does things like lay patios, build walk ways, build retaining walls, etc. Mostly working with block and stone. Sounds like he already has a couple of jobs lined up for the spring. 

2. Speaking of plowing, since Ian's business is seasonal he has been picking up some winter jobs. One of which is plowing. He has access to a one ton pick up truck with plow & sander/salt spreader and he's up early on those mornings we've had snow to get out and get those parking lots cleared. Another job he picked up (in the late fall) was working for a logging company running their log skidder when he was needed. 

3. He just spent a week in Las Vegas at an equipment show with his grandfather and had a fabulous time.

Alec

1. Changed his major at the very end of his Freshman year of college; he actually designed and planned out his own major which entailed a whole lot of work. I call him "culinary adjacent" since he's keeping lots of bread baking and assorted pastry classes but took out other baking/pastry arts requirements like sugar sculpting, cake decorating, chocolate sculpting, etc. and added in lots of farm to table, sustainability, plant biology courses and the like. The mix of science and baking suits him... though I do often wonder what he'll do with his degree when he graduates. As a requirement of building his own major he had to find 3 job listings and write up a paper on why his chosen path to graduation would make him uniquely qualified and I'm guessing he proved his point since the board and the dean (and the culinary chefs & the head of the science department) approved it. He did have to name his major too.. but seems to have forgotten what he called it! I think it was something like Bread Baking Through a Biology Basis or something like that. 

2. He's participating in his first ever play; the school is doing a Percy Jackson themed play and he is quite excited. I'm hoping they open it up to the public and we can take a trip to see it ourselves. 

3. He just booked his flight for a summer trip/study abroad in Greece! He'll be gone for just over 2 weeks and spending lots of time in kitchen with some of his teachers and fellow students eating Greek Cuisine and learning some new techniques and recipes. All this while earning 3 credits and ticking off (some of) the field study requirement.

Evan 

1. He was offered a permanent position after his seasonal job at Michael's craft store ended. His bosses love him and keep asking if he has any friends as smart and as hard working as he is, or if they could clone him, etc. so we weren't surprised when they told him they'd be keeping him. He was thrilled to find out he earned a bonus too since their store was one of the top 5 in the country sales-wise (a huge feat since it's also one of the smallest!).

2. We're headed to his accepted student day at Clark this weekend and he found out one of his best friend will be staying on at Clark next year for his Master's classes so Evan is pretty excited to know that he'll have a familiar face so nearby. 

3. While Evan has always enjoyed stories it was just recently that he's declared reading one of his favorite past times. He went to check out our local comic book store and we've been going nearly once a month. He is just devouring them! 

Ben and I

1. We had to skip our February date night since the winter storms messed up our plans but we just had a fabulous date night this past weekend and I'm already thinking ahead to our next. I just love date nights with my guy! 

2. We're going to be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this spring and while we originally wanted to do it up real big we just could not make it work with the boys' schedules. We both thought it was more important to be here for things like dropping/picking Alec up from his study abroad, being home for Evan's first few weeks of college, enjoying what could be our last family vacation, etc. So we're heading to our favorite little B&B in Maine for a couple of days and putting of a big celebration for another time. 

3. My husband's contract at work is up this year so we're waiting to see what this means... it could very well mean that nothing at all changes or it could mean we have some really big changes coming up. At this point we'll just have to wait and see.
