Talking About it Tuesday #106

Hello February! I sure hope it feels like the short month it is promised to be. February and March can be brutal up here in New England but I always have hopes that since February is a short month that it will actually feel that way... even though it rarely does. We do have some fun plans though so hopefully that will help.

    We have some plans this weekend but other than that, not anything that I can think of for the month. My February is usually very activity "lite" and that doesn't bother me. I still feel like I'm in hibernation mode- getting rest figuratively and literally before busier months. Thanks for the link up!

    Thanks so much for all your visits!! Winter is far from over here in NEPA...We have gotten some of our best snowstorms in March...Had a bit of a warm up this week...into the 20's but the bottom will drop out again over the weekend when we are not expected to get out of the single digits on Saturday...

    Our snowiest month is usually March, so I am hoping that occurs again this year as our state is low in snowpack this winter. I like the looks of the blueberry cast iron coffee cake--we had blueberry pancakes yesterday morning--so good!

    Hmmm...I am planning "hopefully" to do a hike Friday on a simple trail at a state park. I AM NEEDING TRAIL TIME. LOL!!!! I am also tentatively planning to attend a Tea Saturday with a friend. But things are so up in the air with our weather.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. 15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Share 4 Somethings January 2026 Edition

It's the last Saturday of the month and time for Share 4 Somethings with Jenn. This year we're sharing something we loved, something that sustained us, something we're carrying forward, and something we're making space for each month.    Something I loved: watching Ian zip around in his new "toy" plowing snow; it looked like fun   playing Triominoes with my boys and my mother in law; we were laughing so much! Going to the movies for the first time in YEARS (we saw the latest Avatar) A fun morning exploring local shops and this bakery with Evan I didn't love having to cancel our dinner reservations at Hell's Kitchen for last Sunday but the huge impending storm wasn't cooperating. We ended up still going to Foxwood's the night before and tried out Cedar's Steakhouse instead. I LOVED that we still managed to squeeze a date night in for January! What's Up Wednesday in January 2026

It's the last Wednesday of the month and time to link up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday.  What We're Eating: Saturday:   We moved our date night to Saturday and tried out Cedar's Steakhouse at Foxwoods (We don't gamble but love the casino's restaurants plus it's a huge indoor complex to walk around in in winter).  Sunday:   Bolognese sauce with pasta, garlic bread, & salad Monday:  Caprese Tuscan chicken with wild rice & acorn squash w/salad Tuesday: Pulled pork sandwiches with chips and salad. Wednesday: Sweet chili ground turkey with rice noodles and pea pods   Thursday:  Fish casserole for my husband I then I'll make homemade chicken fingers with broccoli & potatoes for the boys. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my ...
