Hodgepodge Wednesday; Snowy Granola Fun in January
It's a two post kind of day today! I posted about wearing a Continuous Glucose Monitor for a month but when I saw Joyce's fun questions for today's Hodgepodge Wednesday I just couldn't resist joining in!
1. Ice skating, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, playing in the snow, or a snowy walk...which winter activity do you choose? Have you done any of these activities so far this winter?
So living in Connecticut my whole life, I have done every single one of these activities. I haven't ice skated in years and I gave up skiing in 4th grade when I broke my leg but snowshoeing, playing in the snow, and snowy walks still happen at times. Most often you'll find me on a snowy walk. In fact Evan and I went on one this past Monday. It was so beautiful that we took TONS of photos:

2. Everyone is posting pictures from ten years ago on their social media sites so let's jump on the bandwagon too. Share one photo and one thought to go with said photo from the year 2016. And maybe everyone isn't doing this, but many are and we're going to be part of the fun.
One photo?! I think even Joyce knows I will never narrow it down to 1 photo... 10 years ago we were in the midst of homeschooling and 2016 started our 100 days of art project in May (we didn't finish until June the following year!),

3. What's a trend you hope disappears in this new year? I don't really know of or follow any trends..
4. 'They' say there's a day for everything and January 21st proves it. National Granola Bar Day. Do you like granola bars? How about just regular granola? Do you like bars of other kinds?
I don't eat granola bars often but I do make my own each week for the boys. I do eat granola (that I also make) on a regular basis with my fruit and yogurt bowls.

5. A frozen lake, a trickling stream, a raging river, or a deep well...which one describes something about your life right now? Elaborate as much or as little as you like.
Well, since it's winter and we live on the lake I'm going to have to go with frozen lake right now (though I do walk by a trickling stream to get our mail and we have our own well so more than 1 could have applies to life right now).

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Not really sure what to talk about I consulted a random topic generator which them prompted me to Google and see which winter sports are in the Olympics. Have you heard of the new sport debuting this year-- ski mountaineering? It sounds crazy to me (someone who broke their leg on a bunny slope hill smaller than most found in my yard!). They climb mountains in their skis and then descend but it's more than that as they have to know how to read mountains and not set off avalanches... heck, even just hiking in the snow in New England makes me nervous as rock climbing in boots can be so hard when you can't tell what is snow pack and what is rock face. I can't imagine learning the "skills" for this... sport? Do you know anyone that has tried this?

It looks like you live in a winter wonderland and such a beautiful place to walk! Fantastic photos, from the snowy day and the throwback one's!
ReplyDeleteYour granola bars look so good but I would always go for the sweet dessert bars. Yum!
I have not heard of Ski Mountaineering, it does sound like such a dangerous sport! Eek!
Aw, thank you! I don't often love winter but when it's so pretty and the weather is mild enough for us to hike in it, I somehow don't mind it nearly as much.
DeleteThose photos from your Monday walk are incredible- so so beautiful- they are making me "kinda" appreciate winter ;) Seriously awesome pics- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOH this made me laugh! I feel the same way! The beauty almost makes up for the cold and wet of winter... almost.
DeleteI loved all the snowy pictures! It's beautiful, where you live. Look at your sweet boys when they were young!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteThose pictures are great! Any activity where one of the conditions to not set off an avalanche seems like a... not good idea?? I love dessert bars, too! Your pictures are making me crave a dessert bar. I will have to stick to my non healthy but low sugar, low carb bars and wait until another cheat day for the real thing! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteRight?! I can't imagine having to worry about avalanches!
DeleteYour snowy walk photos are so beautiful! I do love the look of snow, I just wish it didn't come with the cold & ice haha.
ReplyDeleteYes! My sentiments exactly!
DeleteGorgeous photos! That sport is crazy! It sounds so dangerous! I am excited to try to watch more Olympics than normal since I'm not working during the games!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! I'm going to try but ever since we went to streaming I haven't been able to watch much of the Olympics at all.
DeleteI'm excited for the Olympics but have not heard of that sport. Is it a sport? I don't understand the competition portion of this one. Oh well I watch it all so kudos to the people doing something that sounds a little crazy to me. Your snow pics are beautiful! We used to do lots of snow hikes when we lived up north. We are supposed to have freezing rain this weekend which isn't nearly so nice. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how they'd score it too and like are they making a track for it; how can you grade people on their mountaineering ability and it seems like in that case avalanche assessment (hopefully!) wouldn't be involved at all. We're supposed to get snow but we've heard everything from 2-5 inches up to 12-18"!
DeleteWinterwonderland... a special magic in the snow. I enjoyed reading very much.
ReplyDeleteGreetings by Heidrun ☃️
Aw, thank you!
DeleteI love looking at photos of snow in nature- it's so beautiful. That being said, I don't like being in the snow at all. Thus we spend winters in Florida. The photos of your kids when younger are precious.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to spend my winters in Florida. I keep trying to convince my husband that we need to do that-- at least once he retires!
DeleteThose pictures are so pretty. The new olympic sport sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteWhat fabulous pictures! I really miss the snow in Rhode Island - not so much being out in it but looking at it outside my window, especially in the evening with the lights from the Christmas tree in the forefront. I've always wanted to try snowshoeing but not sure the knees could manage it now.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I do love looking out at it.
DeleteAbsolutely STUNNING pictures of the snow. And the lake looks gorgeous all frozen and snowy like that!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteYour winter pictures are absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe snow sure looks fabulous! And I should try to make granola!
ReplyDeleteI like that I can control what goes into it that way; I've tried lots of recipes through the years.
