Throwback Tuesday: How To Make a Ribbon and Paperclip Angel Ornament in 4 Easy Steps

We had another quick and easy crafting project on our agenda today!  We made some angel ornaments using paperclips, ribbons, beads, and buttons.  



On Sunday we found our elf hunkered down against our gingerbread house making us a snowman out of marshmallows.

Today, the boys spotted him hitching a piggy back ride from one our snowmen.  Once the elf was found we were finally able to start our day.



Our craft for today was making angel paperclip ornaments.  

These were super easy!

All you need is:
  • butterfly paper clips (I found them at Staples-- I think I paid less than $4 for 50 of them)
  • some large round beads in silver or pearl (we found silver)
  • some 1/4" ribbon (which I had on hand already)
  • buttons or pony beads for a halo  
Step 1: We cut a length of ribbon about 8" long, held it in a loop and threaded our bead onto the ribbon like this. 
 
 
Step 2:  Pull loop through the middle of the butterfly clip.
 
 
Step 3: We then folded the loop over our bead and pulled tight.

 
 

Step 4: We tried to tie off our ornament but I found our beads had such large holes that the beads slipped right off over our knots so we added a halo to our angels.  
 
I let the boys pick out a button or pony bead and we threaded that onto our ribbon over the large beads and then we tied it off with a knot on the top that we could then put a hook through and hang on our tree.  These were pretty simple and it was a very inexpensive craft which makes it perfect to bring to our homeschooling group later in the week!

15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6.
