Homemade BBQ Pulled Pork Pizzas
My husband got a smoker a few years ago for Father's day and he loves to smoke meat on Sundays. Often when he smokes a pork butt (also called a pork shoulder) he smokes two of them then we shred the pork, eat some for dinner that night and freeze the rest for quick and easy dinners.
That said I've been having fun coming up with new ways to serve the pulled pork. One of our favorite pizza places makes a pulled pork pizza the guys love and I just knew I could recreate it at home easily. It was a huge hit with the family.
It was so easy to make too; I don't have amounts listed since you can make one small pizza, one large pizza, many pizzas, etc... plus I also didn't measure!
Ingredients:
- pizza dough-- use your favorite handmade or store bought variety
- BBQ sauce-- we like a homemade version but any BBQ sauce is fine
- pulled pork-- our pulled pork is frozen without BBQ sauce since we smoke our own but even the stuff from your grocery store that has BBQ sauce in it will work.
- Shredded cheddar or Monterey jack; I used a combination of the two
- sliced green onions
To assemble:
I cut our dough into 4 individual sized pizzas and spread them out on my baking sheet using some parchment paper and oil to help keep them from sticking. I preheated the oven to 500 degrees.
I used several tablespoons worth of BBQ sauce for each pizza; spreading a generous layer just like I would typically spread pizza sauce.
I sprinkled a single layer of leftover pulled pork on top of the sauce then topped that with a handful or two of shredded cheese. Then finished them off with some sliced green onions.
I popped the trays into the preheated oven and baked them for 10 minutes. Until the pork was bubbling and the cheese was lightly browned and melted.
They were delicious!

Looks and sounds really good! What a good idea to keep some cooked meat in the freezer for when you need quick meals.
ReplyDeleteI do that quite often; when we make pot roast I cook up two and put leftovers in the freezer already cut up and ready to use in a second recipe another day.
Deleteit's always fun to make your own pizza. These look great; we don't eat pork but i'm sure other meats would be great too.

I bet it would. I'm not a big pork or meat eater myself but I'll happily cook it up for my guys.
DeleteThese look delicious! I need to make one for myself this weekend because my hubby is out of town and gluten free! :)

DeleteOh wow! That pizza looks so good! I love pulled pork but never think of having it on pizza, I really should!
ReplyDeleteIf you liked pulled pork you'll like it on pizza, I'm sure. I don't even like pulled pork and I though this was pretty good.
DeleteThese look delicious! It's always nice to pull out some meat that is ready to go from the freezer.
ReplyDeleteIt really is!
DeleteWhat do you add to the pork as you're smoking it? We don't have a smoker, but I do like to buy those pork shoulders and cook them in the slo-cooker. Then, you have meat already cooked and ready to go.

As far as i know he puts a spice rub on the pork shoulder then spritzes it with apple juice or apple cider vinegar as it smokes.
DeleteThis looks and sounds amazing! I think my family would love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to try it and they do!
DeleteMy mouth is watering as I scroll through the photos - I would love to eat this right now! I bought myself a pork roast yesterday and have plans in mind to do something similar. (:

DeleteTo this day, I still crave a pulled pork pizza we had when out one night listening to jazz music! I have yet to recreate the flavors (as I remember them) at home but I'll definitely give your version a try! (It could be that I just have fond memories of the evening... listening to good music, eating a yummy pizza and sipping on a lovely glass of wine!). LOL!
ReplyDeleteYeah, sometimes our memories sure to do seem to make the food taste even better, don't they?
DeleteOh, this looks delicious! I think we need a smoker.
ReplyDeleteFeaturing you this week, Joanne. Now I'm off to raid the fridge because this has made me hungry, lol. 😂
