Homemade BBQ Pulled Pork Pizzas

My husband got a smoker a few years ago for Father's day and he loves to smoke meat on Sundays. Often when he smokes a pork butt (also called a pork shoulder) he smokes two of them then we shred the pork, eat some for dinner that night and freeze the rest for quick and easy dinners.

That said I've been having fun coming up with new ways to serve the pulled pork. One of our favorite pizza places makes a pulled pork pizza the guys love and I just knew I could recreate it at home easily. It was a huge hit with the family.

It was so easy to make too; I don't have amounts listed since you can make one small pizza, one large pizza, many pizzas, etc... plus I also didn't measure!

Ingredients:

  • pizza dough-- use your favorite handmade or store bought variety
  • BBQ sauce-- we like a homemade version but any BBQ sauce is fine
  • pulled pork-- our pulled pork is frozen without BBQ sauce since we smoke our own but even the stuff from your grocery store that has BBQ sauce in it will work.
  • Shredded cheddar or Monterey jack; I used a combination of the two
  • sliced green onions

To assemble:

I cut our dough into 4 individual sized pizzas and spread them out on my baking sheet using some parchment paper and oil to help keep them from sticking. I preheated the oven to 500 degrees.

I used several tablespoons worth of BBQ sauce for each pizza; spreading a generous layer just like I would typically spread pizza sauce.

I sprinkled a single layer of leftover pulled pork on top of the sauce then topped that with a handful or two of shredded cheese. Then finished them off with some sliced green onions.

I popped the trays into the preheated oven and baked them for 10 minutes. Until the pork was bubbling and the cheese was lightly browned and melted.

They were delicious!

  1. Looks and sounds really good! What a good idea to keep some cooked meat in the freezer for when you need quick meals.

  2. it's always fun to make your own pizza. These look great; we don't eat pork but i'm sure other meats would be great too.
    cheers
