Currently... October 2025

It's the first Wednesday of the month so it's time for the Currently link up with Jenn. The prompts for October are loving, anticipating, looking forward to, wearing, and cooking.


 Loving: This time of year I love our hikes and seeing all the pretty leaves. 


Evan and I had a fabulous morning at the zoo. I loved seeing all the animals out enjoying our nice weather too.


 

Anticipating:I am anticipating sleep in this morning. Evan and I went to a concert last night; it was at a new (to us) concert venue. It was an indoor/outdoor venue and we were encouraged to get there super early for parking. Think 4 pm for an 8 pm show! We anticipated large crowds and not getting home until the wee hours of this morning since the venue is easily an hour away and we heard traffic afterwards could be brutal. BUT since I was anticipating having a wonderful time at the show I tried to just focus on the band/music/performance and block all the rest of it out. 

Looking forward to: We have a fun month ahead with my husband's birthday dinner, a few fishing trips for my husband and oldest son, a couple of shows for Alec & I, both Alec and Evan are starting new jobs, it should be a great month for everyone. 

Wearing: It was 80 here on Monday and Tuesday-- 80! Mostly I'm still wearing summer tops mixed in with capri pants, linen pants, and lightweight fabrics or the occasional jumpsuit.

Cooking: I made corn fritters, sausage/onions/peppers one night. 

I cooked up some whole chickens the other night with broccoli and squash casserole but the only photo I have is of the raw chickens! 

stuffed them with apples and lemons and seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and rosemary. They were SO tender!

    Your food looks good! I am not afraid to see raw chicken! I want to make a crockpot roast and the roast at Kroger is $33! I think I am going to do it with stew meat which is about $11. Darn these grocery prices!

      Wow! I bought 2 roasts that I typically roast together in one large pot and I think I spent around $30. I've noticed our grocery prices aren't as high lately (or else I'm really buying a WHOLE lot less!).

      Ours are mostly just falling from the trees and aren't very vibrant but i think they're just so dry.

    I don't think I have ever heard of porgy fish! Learned something today! I love that you are anticipating a great month ahead! Such a great outlook!! As always, loved your hiking photos. Goodness but I would want to hike every day!!

      I never had either until he came home with a bag of them... and I took to the internet to figure out how best to prepare them. They are small but really tasty and have just a hint of sweetness.

      This one was Roger Williams Zoo in Providence but we also sometimes go to Southwick's zoo in Mendon, Mass.

      Those have been my favorite pants all summer long! They came in purple and pink too and I'm kind of wishing I had bought at least one other color. They are perfect for summer.

    Your cooking looks fabulous! Whole chicken is so delicious. Seems like you've had some really good September weather (we did too). The perfect month for hiking! Are those trails close to you or do you need to drive to them?

    Your meals look yummy! I am enjoying the outdoors a lot this week as our highs are not as high and the morning are starting to cool off! We are trying to plan more activities too and enjoy fall to the fullest.

    I love zoo's..Whenever we traveled and there was a Zoo nearby, we always visited it...The nearest one to me right now is about an hour away...It would be a nice trip in the Fall with the leaves turning....I am playing catch up since I am now finished decorating the house for Fall and Halloween...Thanks so much for all your visits!!

      We have two zoos about 30/45 minutes away so we don't get there often but we did learn that this particular zoo has baby red pandas that should be out and on display within another couple of weeks so we plan to go back one last time before it gets too cold.

      Oh you had to ask... I could not for the life of me remember what it was but I did look it up on the zoo's website. It's a Bolivian Gray Titi Monkey.

    Wow, still so warm! We are so heading into fall here (not complaining, this is totally my weather). We had one day in the low 70s, but with a lot of rain.

      We should be well into fall by now but for some reason our weather is just not cooperating. It's so odd... it was in the 80's again today even. Though it looks like we might have some weather in the 60's next week. That is far more normal for fall in Connecticut.

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning. What's Up Wednesday: February 2026

It's the last Wednesday of the month and time to link up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday. I won't have as many photos as usual since they're on my laptop and that is home in CT... I only have the last few days on my phone.   What We're Eating:  Evan and I flew to North Carolina for a long weekend and got stuck here since a blizzard hit the east coast and airports shut down (last I heard Providence RI [where we fly into] got 37.5 inches!). We're Eating things like: Crepes from Our Crepes and More.  Mine was a tiramisu crepe. Then for dinner my mom had homemade meatballs and sauce with spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad.      Breakfast has consisted of yogurt parfait bowls (sorry some photos are sidways and upside I don't have my laptop with me and Blogger is a bit limited on the phone app) or eggs with sourdough toast.  We had a huge family cookout with chicken, burgers, roasted potatoes, veggies, and salad with pineapple...

North Carolina Trip: Highs & Lows

Evan and I headed to North Carolina for 4 days from Saturday February 21st until Tuesday February 24th... or so we thought. It was just a"quick trip" to see family... but a blizzard hit at home and we could not find a flight back home to the airport I had parked at until very, very late Friday February 27th and we arrived home at 2 am on February 28th.  Evan had been asking to go down "one last time" to see his cousins before he starts college in the fall and we were able to make that happen. My sister, her husband, and her two teen/young adult sons had just moved in January and live much closer to my mom now so we figured this was the perfect time to go. I only had to pay for flights and my mom offered to chauffeur us around for the weekend plus got their spare bedrooms set up for us to stay with them. I thought this would be a cheap trip as well but added airfare costs, much longer parking at the airport, and filling our days with things to do added up quickly.  W...

TV Shows I LOVE

I have wanted to make a series about shows we're enjoying on TV for several years now but I am so inconsistent with it! I published two posts in 2019 about my favorite shows to binge/rewatch and my favorite shows to watch that season.  Then I remembered to write another post in spring  2024 about favorite shows and movies I had been watching  and once again forgot to ever write another one.  I have well over a year of TV shows we've "discovered" to share. The good news is it will definitely only list those shows I absolutely LOVED. Now these aren't necessarily new shows but they were new to me.    In no particular order those shows include: Landman- - set in Texas this show is a wild ride of oil billionaires, roughnecks, and relationships.
