Summer Photo Challenge

I put together my own photo challenge for the summer; once again hoping to get myself to use my "real" camera more. But I'd say 99% of these photos were taken with my phone. I did bring the Nikon to Glacier national park with us but could not get it to work despite changing the batteries. I guess it might be time for a replacement. 

Anyway I had fun filling in the prompts and have started putting together a list for fall-- any suggestions on prompts I should add to my list?

    Great pictures! Ugh about your Nikon but camera phones take really good pictures now, fortunately. I was curious when I first saw your Glacier pictures if you used your Nikon or your phone camera. The quality looked really good to me.

      Thank you! My phone does take really amazing photos... which is why I've gotten so lax about using my "real" camera.

    Fun challenge! The iphone photos are just getting so good. I saw an entire movie was coming out that was shot on an iphone.

    Such a great collection! My Nikon really could use an upgrade but I get so overwhelmed with all the options and I'm not in the know about what's good.

      I feel the same way about hunting down a new one. I'm hoping it was a bad batch of batteries and will try swapping them out one more time just to make sure.

      I was mostly annoyed that I carried it for a 10 mile hike... only for it to stop working after the first 10 feet or so!

    You really got some great shots! I feel like our phone cameras are catching up to the "fancy" cameras. I've found that I don't even use my "fancy" camera anymore now that my iPhone has gotten so good! I really need to just sell it!

    Its amazing how our phones are so good now. We still use our real camera for photo shoots but sometimes the phone is easier.

      I do like that I don't HAVE to lug the big camera around everywhere; particularly when traveling as it takes up so much room in my carry on.

    Your photos are always amazing! I am so glad of the camera option on phones these days because I was never one to take photos before. Sometimes, I have to remind myself to put the phone away and just be present!

    These are great pictures! How fun to do a summer challenge.
    I gave up on my real camera. It just takes too much time and my phone takes pretty good pictures.
    Glacier National Park looks amazing! And your hydrangeas are gorgeous!

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Each year near the end of December/ beginning of January I share the top 10 posts of the year but this year, in particular, I have noticed some much older posts that are still bringing in lots of pageviews and thought it would be fun to look back and see a top 10 list of all time.  I started my blog in June of 2012 and while so many of my first posts were long blocky, chunky rambles without any real photos of us and our family I just can't bring myself to delete any of them as I really do enjoy looking back and seeing how my blog has change and grown over time. Immersive Monet Experience

 I had such high expectations for the Immersive Monet exhibit because we loved the Van Gogh one so much and I love Monet's art work even more. Alec and I went this past weekend and we spent a good 2 hours inside.  It was in the same building and space that housed the Van Gogh exhibit so we expected a similar set up.     We read about Monet's life and works and home. We watched a short computer animated video about the start of the impressionist movement and Monet's role in it.  Then we stepped into a room that was set up to look like Monet's art studio/salon. There were reproductions of his art all around, little handwritten notes/thoughts sprinkled throughout and even a little window where you could look out onto a scene from Monet's garden complete with bridges, hanging plants, and koi pond.  From there we stepped out into Monet's garden. 100 Days of Science #68-- Index Card Tower

My boys did such a wonderful job with their spaghetti bridges and popsicle stick bridges that I decided to look up some other fun STEM challenges.  I found a fun index card challenge that I thought they might like.  I handed each of them a package of index cards from the dollar store and asked them to build the tallest tower they could just using index cards.   Evan struggled quite a bit at first not thinking about folding the cards in any way but once we saw what his older brother's were doing he hatched a new plan.  Every now and then they'd stop to measure their towers.. being very careful not to knock them over. Ian build his tower on our coffee table making sure to use a nice wide base. Ian's tower was the tallest by just a few inches and Evan had the shortest. This challenge really got them thinking about structural integrity and they had to be real careful of how they moved about too. ...
