Talking About it Tuesdays #83

Happy Tuesday! It's time for another Talking About it Tuesday party. I hope you have had a fabulous week and weekend since we last "talked." I sure did. Our weather has been beautiful and we enjoyed a day at the botanical gardens, a lovely kayak ride, a very informative college tour, and lots of time spent outdoors. I don't know what we'll do this week but I sure hope it will be fun too. 

Now onto our party. We had so many wonderful posts submitted last week and it's always the best (and yet most difficult) to pick a few to feature and share. I see so many fun fall themed posts starting already and it's making me just a tiny bit excited for all things pumpkin and cozy and golden. But I still want to soak up these days of summer for as long as they'll last.

      Yep, I am like that every year; though at some point by mid- Sept. I give in and accept that summer is essentially over.

      I usually can make it until September at least... though our mornings definitely have that fall feel to them even if it's blazing hot by mid-day.

      Yeah, it's been in the 90's here the past few days so it definitely feels like full on summer mode here too and that sure helps hold off those fall feelings.

      Our last one should be this week though we did find that at least one of the colleges he's interested in offers a shadow day so we'll take advantage of that this fall too.

    Now that our last major Summer vacation ended, I admit that I am ready for Fall. I love cool, crisp evenings and am ready to give my poor air conditioning a rest. I love having the windows open while I am doing work. Have a wonderful week!

      We've already started in with some pretty cool mornings and evenings so I've noticed our air conditioner isn't turning on at all while we're in bed at night.... it's still warming up a lot during the day though so it's just a teasing of fall.

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Each year near the end of December/ beginning of January I share the top 10 posts of the year but this year, in particular, I have noticed some much older posts that are still bringing in lots of pageviews and thought it would be fun to look back and see a top 10 list of all time.  I started my blog in June of 2012 and while so many of my first posts were long blocky, chunky rambles without any real photos of us and our family I just can't bring myself to delete any of them as I really do enjoy looking back and seeing how my blog has change and grown over time. Not surprisingly all my top 10 posts are from more recent years.  I love to look at what is popular and try to figure out WHY each post is so popular. Share Your Shelf #16 & What I Read in July

It's the first Thursday of the month and time for Share Your Shelf with  Marilyn,   Jennifer,   Tanya,  and I. This post and link up are dedicated solely to books and book reviews and it's one I look so forward to each and every month. I am always looking for new and more book ideas. I had another great month with a very eclectic variety of books where I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite! I read/listened to 12 books and was rather proud of myself that I managed to finish ALL the books I had checked out from our library before they were due back. That doesn't always happen and I had quite a large stack that I never thought I'd make my way through. Of course despite promising myself I'd read the ones I have waiting at home I did find 1 or 2 others to pick up when I dropped the stack of books off but I've still managed to read a few of my own. 100 Days of Science #68-- Index Card Tower

My boys did such a wonderful job with their spaghetti bridges and popsicle stick bridges that I decided to look up some other fun STEM challenges.  I found a fun index card challenge that I thought they might like.  I handed each of them a package of index cards from the dollar store and asked them to build the tallest tower they could just using index cards.   Evan struggled quite a bit at first not thinking about folding the cards in any way but once we saw what his older brother's were doing he hatched a new plan.  Every now and then they'd stop to measure their towers.. being very careful not to knock them over. Ian build his tower on our coffee table making sure to use a nice wide base. Ian's tower was the tallest by just a few inches and Evan had the shortest. This challenge really got them thinking about structural integrity and they had to be real careful of how they moved about too. ...

Southwick's Zoo Trip; New Baby Cheetahs

The boys and I have been waiting all summer to go to Southwick's zoo. They had announced earlier this spring that new baby cheetahs had been born and we could not wait to see them.. but they were kept off exhibit for several weeks while they grew and were cared for.  We decided to pick a day at the end of July (after they were introduced to the zoo) to go. We brought my mom along and spent a good 4 hours at the zoo. I'm pretty sure we saw every animal there at least once if not twice. Our first stop was to see the new cubs. There are 2 girls and a boy.  The cubs are only out for the first 2 hours of the day so we wanted to make sure we saw them before heading off to check out the rest of the zoo.  rhinos Siberian tigers Lions monkey (but I can't remember the specific kind!)
