Share 4 Somethings in August; 2025

Since the last Saturday of the month is tomorrow it's just about time for Share 4 Somethings with Jenn. As always we're sharing some things we loved, some things we learned, some things that went well, and some things we let go of

Some things I've loved: We've had lots of delicious food and ice cream this month.

We loved playing cornhole with my sister in law and nephew one night.

We loved exploring the botanical gardens with my mom.

We loved spending time with my husband's family to celebrate my mother in law's birthday.

Some things I've learned: I learned that I won a summer reading prize through my local library and in doing so I also learned that there is a cute new bakery in the next town over! I can't wait to check it out. I hardly ever win anything and now I've won two things in one month.

Some things that went well: Whelp, Alec and I managed to pack the car and fit nearly everything into it! The only thing we couldn't fit was this new cool wagon I had bought to help us transport his stuff and since his building doesn't have an elevator anyway we figured it would be pretty useless. Good thing too as we were not fitting one more thing in the car-- we barely had room for the 3 of us!

he put the bin with his 7 (yes 7!) plants on his lap...

His room is lovely and move in day was a breeze; we all remarked on how much easier everything went this year and tried to figure out how/why that was. Within just an hour and a half we had everything unpacked and put away and headed out for a late lunch.

I forgot to take photos of anything unpacked (except for the bathroom!) but here's what his apartment/area/complex looks like:

kitchen

living room

one of the bathrooms off to the left; the washer/dryer in the closet in the hall. All the bedrooms are off the hall on the right.

the bathroom Alec and his friend are sharing (there are 2 sinks behind me with a storage cabinet in between them). There is another bathroom just like this one for the other 2 roommates to share.

Alec's room; each of the 4 bedrooms has a lock/key and thick steel door so they can be as open/closed as they want to. He has a HUGE closet too.

Some things I let go of:
I've packed up 2 boxes of puzzles, book and things to give to our library. Each fall they have a sale to raise funds for the library and take donations of books, puzzles, movies, and things like that. I try to store up our "stuff' for them each year and drop off at least a few boxes of goods.

  5. I'm impressed you fit everything for an apartment in one vehicle with three people in the car! We realized that three of us and Alyssa's things were not going to fit in one car (for the tiny room she's sharing...) so Alyssa and I headed up to her school with my car filled to the brim and then Donnie met us over there with his car pretty full, too. Love the pictures from the botanical garden. So, so pretty! Looks like great family get togethers, too!

    1. It was not easy but we were very impressed with ourselves. It helped that we kept all cleaning supplies, most toiletries, paper goods-- pretty much anything we could buy later that day out of the car. Alec only gets one parking pass for the day so we figured worse case I could always run up with a second load of non-essentials another day if I had to.

  6. Gabbie is living in a very similar sounding apartment for 4, with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms! Glad it all went well!

    1. It was such a relief; though we still never saw the elusive 4th roommate. I'm assuming she's moved in by now! None of the 3 had heard a peep from her all summer long and she wasn't there for the 2 or so hours that we were either.

  8. Hahaha!! My son would be all about the plants, too! He is constantly FaceTiming me to show me his plants. He has more than I do now. Congrats on winning two contests! I remember lugging things up stairs to unpack my kids. Not fun, but it was extra time with them.

  12. I'm glad the move-in process went smoothly. His college apartment looks like the one Grace had for the last two years. It was furnished and owned by the university. It made it so easy to move in and out, especially from out of state! Hope you have a good weekend.
