Currently.. In August 2025

It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for the Currently link up with Jenn. This month we're talking about what we're currently loving, looking forward to, scheduling, buying, and gearing up for.  I really struggled with these prompts this month! 


Loving: Flirty/playful texts with my husband, a fun date night we had this past weekend. 

 

Heading out with friends to see Back to the 80's-- it was such a fun soundtrack! 

My mom, Alec and I spent most of the day Monday shopping and went out to lunch together. It was a fabulous day with lots of laughs.

Scheduling: We scheduled 2 more college tours this month for Evan. We'll be checking out Bryant College and Dean college.  

I went to Bryant University for a week long yearbook camp when I was a junior in high school.  


And my mom is nearly 99% sure that Dean university was the college we all stayed overnight for a freshman orientation/accepted student weekend.. of sorts ALL those many years ago-- needless to say I didn't end up going there. 

 

It's so funny to be checking out so many of these same colleges with Evan so many years later.. I must admit I don't recognize hardly any of them. We even toured my Alma mater and I only recognized a few select buildings. 

Buying: Alec and I finished buying the stuff he wants/needs for the apartment kitchen. So far him and his friend are splitting things just between the two of them since the 3rd roommate they've managed to get a hold of sounds like she mostly wants to be left alone to do her own thing and none of the 3 have heard from the 4th roommate at all! Luckily all 3 are culinary or baking majors so he didn't need a ton of cooking stuff just a toaster, some pots and pans, some plates/bowls/ silverware.. Hopefully we're not adding much more to his pile since we barely fit everything in the car last year as it is!

We found a set of dishes online made out of plastic wheat straw that are dishwasher and microwave safe as well as non-breakable so I'm excited to see what they look like in person. 


 

Gearing up for: It's still a month away but I'm gearing up for my trip to Glacier. I've started making lists galore.  I started my packing list early and I'm making lists of trails, possible foods/places to eat, things to see and do that aren't IN the national park, things to do and see that ARE in the park. I do this for nearly every trip we go on and we usually end up doing very little of it and just winging it as we go but I still like to have the ideas to fall back on just in case.

    Oh your trip sounds wonderful already! Can't wait to follow along. I have heard great things about Bryant- can't wait to see where he decides to go :)

    Joanne is getting spicy with her texts! I love that. I am glad you had a date night! We have hardly had any this summer. It's just been so weird! This is Tom's busy season at work so that is part of it.
    College visits can be so fun!
    That is funny that one roommate is MIA. I hope it works out ok. And, that's good to know that the other one wants to do their own thing. I bet the two of them will have some great meals!

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Favorites and Highlights One Sentence a Day in July 2025

I feel like July sped by in a blur and yet weirdly I also feel like the 4th of July was so long ago! We definitely tried to pack lots of summer fun into our weeks and make the most of our summer in between hiding out inside from some extreme heat waves and severe thunderstorms.  We've had so much fun and lots of good food this July so I can't complain.  1. So thankful that my mother in law was available for dinner at the last minute.  My mom and I went to yoga then Evan and I headed out hiking even though it was hot and muggy and threatening rain/thunderstorms but they never materialized until late that night. 12,304 steps.    2.  So thankful I finished my book just before we left!  Gym with my mom, then I spent most of my afternoon trying to finish up the book that was due back at the library in time for us to vote after dinner (our voting place is at our library-- also the budget did not pass for the 3rd time). 9,946 steps.       ...

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Monthly Musings July 2025: How We Summer

 It's the last Thursday of the month and time for monthly musings with Holly and Patty.   1. My favorite thing about this summer including having my family so near; Alec is home from college so I have all 3 boys at home, my parents are up from North Carolina so I get to see my mom on a near daily basis. My brother and his family are living in my husband's family's campground just down the road so we see them often too!  2. I have eaten so many delicious things this summer but my favorites would include: Ice cream treats!   Fresh picked raspberries-- they were SO good!  We tried some new turkey burger recipes this summer that were SO good! One was apple maple mustard and the other was a Mediterranean burger with spinach and feta and onions.  Ian caught some fresh fish when he went deep sea fishing and we made some really delicious fish tacos one night. What's Up Wednesday in July 2025

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday.  What We're Eating:   Sunday:  Smoked turkey breasts with rice and summer squash casserole. Monday:  Grilled steak, broccoli, and egg noodles (leftover squash casserole for me) Tuesday:  Quick and simple taco salad /plain tacos for the boys. Wednesday:   A new recipe I'm making-- pulled pork pizzas with salad.  Thursday:  Pasta Primavera-- we like this recipe. I'll heat up sauce for the boys who will end up eating plain pasta and sauce but we'll have a salad to go with it.  Friday: Shrimp and chicken kabobs over rice with corn on the cob. What I'm Reminiscing About:  So many times this summer I found myself remembering the summers when the boys were little and we would spend every single day outside on our back patio in the sand and in the water-- even eating dinner outside since we couldn't drag them away from the water.
