Throwback Tuesday: Buttonwood Farm Field Trip

*Originally posted July 24, 2012 when we had only been homeschooling for 1 month. My boys were 4, 6, & 8 at the time. 

We headed out late this afternoon with my mother in law and nephew to Buttonwood Farm.  They have a huge fundraiser every year when sunflowers bloom to raise money for the make a wish foundation.

There's homemade ice cream, a wagon ride through the sunflower field where you stop and feed the cows, sunflower bouquets and tons of people.



We went last year for our first time and my boys not only remembered it but actually asked to go again this year.

I wasn't sure if we were going to make it there this week since two of the boys are on medication for Lyme disease that cautions being in the sun but we loaded them up on sunscreen and bug spray and hoped that going later in the afternoon when the sun wasn't so high would be sufficient enough to keep them from getting burns (it was!).

We devoured our ice cream (in the shade), went on a wagon ride and fed the cows, saw chickens, and took photos in the sunflower field; most of which was in the shade.  We bought a few sunflower bouquets and headed home for dinner.



It was wonderful!

    Looks lovely! We had a great big sunflower 'farm' not far from us in NJ. So much fun to walk through those giant blooms. Thanks for hosting the Tuesday Talk : )

      We really did; I love sunflowers too but I was so surprised the boys had so much fun the first year that they asked to go back again.

    This sounds like such a fun field trip! One of the farms up north plants fields of sunflowers. I think there is one near us here, too. Maybe, next year, Nigel and I will be able to do some photo shoots there. Keep your fingers crossed.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? Birthday Week Favorites

 My birthday was this week and even though we couldn't plan a little weekend getaway with our schedules we still found plenty of ways to make it memorable.  My sister sent me a necklace for my birthday; isn't it pretty? I love that it inadvertently matches the earrings my mother in law bought me when we went to the craft fair at the end of June (as an early birthday gift).   My mother in law also bought me a cute dress, made me a card, and gave me some $ to go shopping. My mother and I went to the Wrentham Outlets to go shopping together for my birthday. We found some really great deals this year and I ended up buying lots of great pieces. I love that all the stores seem to run pretty huge sales/deals after the 4th of July  We ate lunch at Tavern in the Square and I had a delicious chicken & burrata sandwich with arugula and fig jam. Redoing Our Front Walk

Our front walk has settled a bit over the years and, since we built it perfectly level, when the snow melts each winter it floods our front walk. All that water then freezes and we are left with an ice skating rink of a front walk for several months. Ian has been installing patios, walkways, retaining walls and the like for a few years now and decided to take it upon himself to redo our walk and add a bit of a pitch to it so it will (hopefully!) drain into our driveway and then down to the drain in the road.    First we moved the two giant concrete slabs we use for steps and then swept the whole walk off making sure to peel back any grass and dirt that had encroached over the side pieces over the past 20 or so years we've lived here.   Next he began pulling up the patio pavers (with Evan and my husband's help too).
