Acadia 2025 Trip Day 3: Cadillac and Penobscot Mountains

We started our day with a delicious breakfast provided by Dora and cooked by Daniel. Today was a "sweet" day so we started with a delicious raspberry hazelnut tart and then since I didn't like the pancakes on offer (banana & peanut butter with chocolate chips) I got some yogurt with homemade granola and fruit.

It's such a beautiful and relaxing breakfast view; I was so glad it was nice enough to sit outside again today

After breakfast we had some time before our Cadillac mountain summit reservation so we hung out in our room until it was time to leave. We didn't stay at the summit very long; maybe 45 minutes or so. Enough to enjoy the view from multiple angles and stop in the gift shop for a drink and some stickers.

we could see Bar Harbor and Bar island since it was near low tide.

We headed back to Jordan Pond House to park near the trail we wanted to take. We went up the Penobscot trail over to the Deer Brooke Trail and back to Jordan pond house. It took us a good 3 hours or so to hike the total trip. It was pretty warm but thankfully there was a beautiful breeze on top of the mountain.

Alec needed a hiking bag so I lent him my flowered one; luckily he didn't mind the flowers

we stopped part way up for a water break

the views were already pretty fabulous

we finally spied the summit marker in the distance

We stumbled upon a birch forest on the way down.

deer brook was flowing today and I loved the sound of waterfalls all the way down

After hiking we headed back to the B&B for showers and to rest/regroup before dinner. We might have tried some caramel brownies that Daniel made for our afternoon snack. We headed to The Fern for a delicious dinner. All that hiking and only eating breakfast and snack really worked up an appetite.

I had the Maine salmon with veggies; it was amazing.

the views were really pretty too.

We went back to the B&B after dinner and then eventually walked down to the little town in Southwest harbor to get ice cream. I picked cold brew peanut butter chip on the bottom (a cold brew ice cream with chocolate chips and a peanut butter swirl) and fly fishing fudge on top (vanilla ice cream w/ M&M's, chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate chunks, and fudge).

  9. Joanne,
Absolutely amazing pictures!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!! I had to look twice when I saw Penobscot because Penobscot Knob, also Penobscot Mountain, is a summit that is located in the western fringe of the Poconos nearest to Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. This is 15 minutes from where I love!!

  10. Those paths reminded me of all the times we've hiked the north shore of Lake Superior and the Lutsen mountains here in Minnesota. Sadly, I rarely venture out on hikes like that since I injured my knee a few years back. My walking sticks help a lot but I'm cautious around big inclines! Such stunning views!

    1. Aw, that's too bad but I would definitely be cautious around big inclines then too. In fact I'm pretty sure there were a few spots on this trail that I couldn't have made it without a boost or a hand from my husband.
