Our last full day in Acadia and Alec was looking for something different to do that didn't include biking or hiking. We decided to ferry over to Giant Cranberry Island. But first we had breakfast. Daniel prepared a port wine poached pear and shakshuka with a chocolate croissant for our main dish. It was all quite delicious!
Before we went to pick up the ferry, Alec wanted to walk down to check out a local cafe Dora had told us about. He ordered a pastry and an iced matcha latte. He said they were very good but I just loved the decor inside the cafe. They had adorable fake plants and little lights everywhere.
We walked to the ferry dock and found we only had about 20 minutes to wait. I purchased our tickets online and we all boarded the ferry. It's the "off"/shoulder season in Acadia so the ferry only runs every 3 which means we had 3 hours on Giant Cranberry Island.... well 3 hours is about an hour and a half too long. While Giant Cranberry Island is very quaint and small it is not touristy so once we saw the tiny little museum and walked a few of the wooded trails out to the pebble beaches we were out of things to do.
Weirdly all the photos loaded up in reverse order but you get the gist!

we rode the ferry to little Cranberry island (also called Islesford) but didn't get off as it was another 3 hours before a ferry would come by. |

I think this was little cranberry again.. but it might have been Manset (another quick stop we made on the way to/from Giant Cranberry Island) |
After heading back to the B&B to shower, change, rest a bit, etc., we headed back into Bar Harbor for the evening and ate at Galyn's. It was really delicious.

We walked around, window shopped, and browsed a few stores before getting some ice cream from Ben & Bills before walking back to the car and heading to bed for the night.

I don't remember the name but it was a coffee ice cream with cookies and cream and fudge swirls |
Our last morning at The Harbour Cottage Inn and Daniel cooked us one of all time favorite meals he's prepare yet-- creme brulee french toast and peaches and cream.
After breakfast it was time to pack up the car and head out. We hugged Dora good-bye (she feels practically like family by now) and promised to return soon(ish). We stopped at Red's Eats for lobster rolls for lunch... which always takes an hour. I'm still not 100% convinced it's worth the wait but my husband is.
We made one addition stop in York for one last ice cream treat and finally arrived home around 6/6:30. It was a great trip but I was quite happy to be back home and sleep in my own bed again.

DeleteWhat a beautiful trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteEnjoyed reading about your trip and your adventures (including food ones because, yes, they are adventures). Everything you did looks and sounds really fun. I love that you stay at the same place and know the proprietors now.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love that too; we rarely do that when traveling but we just hit it off with Dora and Daniel right from the very start of our very first stay.
DeleteWhat a great idea to ferry over! Such a great island!
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely something different to do from our past trips and it's so neat to see how these people live knowing they are pretty cut off from the mainland when bad weather hits.
DeleteI think I would have loved the ferry day - the island looks so quaint. I would have wanted to pull out my book on that rock beach (if I had a chair!). The food looks amazing and makes me want to plan some fish meals.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem was that the bugs were like blood sucking vampires! Even with my sweater and pants I came home speckled in bug bites. Otherwise I think we would have enjoyed just sitting and resting.
DeleteOh I could have stayed on that pebble beach all day - looks idyllic. The food was also fabulous, apparently!
ReplyDeleteIt was so pretty!
DeleteAll the blue & beauty of nature!!!! Not to mention that food. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat cafe is so pretty too. Atmosphere is just everything!
We lucked out with such beautiful weather! They had a very rainy spring but it was just beautiful while we there.
DeleteWhat a wonderful trip!! I love the name of that island - it sounds like a picture book name, Giant Cranberry Island. Lol. I am glad that you had such a fantastic adventure!
ReplyDeleteRight?! I thought that was so cute!
DeleteAll that beautiful weather too! Looks like a lovely trip!
ReplyDeleteWe had some really beautiful weather.
DeleteLooks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! I'm already hoping we can plan a trip for next year.. but we'll see.
DeleteThat cafe is darling! I love the flowers and lights! That's definitely my kind of place! The ambiance is almost as important as the food to me.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was so cute! I wished we had thought to check it out earlier in the trip. I bet it would have been a great lunch spot too.
DeleteThe breakfasts at Acadia really were something special and what a cute cafe!
ReplyDeleteGiant Cranberry Island is beautiful.
Daniel really goes all out and he's so creative. We've stayed there 3 times now and I think we've only repeated a meal a time or two.
DeleteBeautiful pictures! Looks like an awesome trip with yummy food!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat looks like a great trip to a beautiful place. The icecream looked incredible! Yum!

DeleteMy daughter makes fun of me for returning to places I’ve been before, but I think it’s so comforting to know and be known. How lovely to receive a hug from the owner when you left. And, the food looked delicious! All of these photos are so beautiful…I’m sure it’s going to be hard to scrapbook them.

We try to do a mix of both; travel to new places and check out new sights but there is definitely something to be said for returning to the same place over again.
DeleteWhat an amazing time....its so refreshing to go back to a place you love
ReplyDeleteXoox
Jodie
It really is!
DeleteAnother amazing trip for the books!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely!
DeleteYou all know how to travel! And how to eat ell while traveling. The island is just lovely and oh, your various restaurants and the food look to die for. What a fantastic trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! We definitely know how to eat well... now to work all those excess calories back off!
DeleteAnother wonderful day! The B & B you stayed in sounds so lovely! And I agree with you - as much as I love getting away, its equally inviting to be back home in one's own bed!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is! I slept so good that first night.
DeleteThat sounds like a wonderful trip. The food and ice cream look delicious. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.
ReplyDeleteMaine is one of my favorite places! I love all the islands. I've never heard of Giant Cranberry Island...but now it's on the list!
ReplyDeleteWhat a month you've had Joanne. I wouldn't have been able to walk past that cafe as from the outside it would have called to me. But the decor inside! Beautiful. As usual your outside photos are gorgeous.
