Talking About it Tuesdays #71

It's official all my boys are done school for the year; Evan had his final exam on Thursday and I shared our homeschooling year in review yesterday. I feel like 11th grade went by so fast (as did Alec's Freshman year of college!). I think this is the earliest we've ever finished up. Most schools up here don't end until mid- June so we have a whole extra month of "summer" vacation. And I am loving it!
 
I'm also loving watching this party grow! We had so many wonderful posts linked up with us last week. Picking just a few to feature is always the hardest part of hosting. I get so many great ideas from all the things you share so thank you so much.

    Yah for being done with school and for having an extra long summer break! Our district goes a couple of days past Memorial Day which seems odd (just call it quits by Memorial Day is what makes sense to most people...). Thanks for the link up- have a great day!

      Yeah our school systems often start 1 or 2 days before Labor day and it always seems so odd to me on that end of things too.

    Congrats on being done with school and what a bonus to finish up early! My youngest still has another month at college and the schools here don't finish until the end of July.

      Thank you! I'm intrigued by that end of July date... do your schools have air conditioning or does it just not get that hot there? Our schools systems have toyed with going year round a time or two but aren't equipped to handle the heat (at least that is the main argument brought up against year round schooling).

      It's a great feeling; though not nearly the same relief as I used to feel when there were more students and more effort/work needed from me. This year was pretty easy all around.

    School is out tomorrow but not sure which kids will go since it is half day. My oldest started a part time job today that hopefully will become full time (for the summer). Looking forward to lazy mornings, some pool time and some picnics (and our vacation next week).

      I'm trying to entice my youngest into finding a job but Alec is working 5 days a week most weeks but I can't wait for sunny days in the sun by the lake. It should be a full summer filled with all sorts of family as we have a lot of my family members moving nearby for the entire summer.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my ...

20 of My Pet Peeves

 I try to keep it light and cheery and positive on my blog but the other day I hit send on a comment and noticed yet another typo... and I realized that drives me crazy! Then I started thinking of some of other weird and oddly specific things that drive me crazy and thought I'd share them. I hope you realize this is supposed to be more humorous and fun than griping but sometimes tone is hard to get across.    1. Finding a typo/grammar/spelling error after publishing a post or comment-- at least with a post I can go back in and correct but those comments are often just left out there and I always worry that someone will think I don't know I made that error! 2. Someone who clicks a pen over and over while thinking. .. the sad part I hate to admit is that I DO THIS! LOL.. but it only bothers me when it's someone else making the noise. Why is that?   3. Litter! I get why sometimes there is trash on the side of the road; like if you didn't know you had trash in the...

11th Grade Check In; How We Did With Evan's Junior of High School

Going into his 11th year of schooling Evan already had 18 high school credits (our state requires 25 credits for graduation and even though we fall under the umbrella of private school-- which means I can set my own standards-- I use the general requirements as a guide, knowing he wants to go to college).  Evan took a few classes at our local community college this year so he has more grades on this transcript than just those given to him by his mom. Plus he's going to need some recommendation letters from "others" too and we were hopeful this would give him a chance to make some connections with other teachers and staff and give him an idea of the workload required at a college level.  They wrote such glowing letters!!  Here's how we've done:  Math:  Geometry-- 1 credit -- Check!  We had already started using both of these and we finished them up by the time he started his college math course.   Must Know High School Geometry  ...

Weigh-In Wednesdays: May 2025

After rejoining Weight Watchers, I knew I wanted to reinstate my Weigh- In Wednesdays posts. On the third Wednesday of every month I'll have a new post/party up for everyone to share workout tips, weight loss thoughts and ideas, and healthy recipes to fuel us on our journey to better health.  I was feeling so smug at the start of the month/end of last month when I returned home from Kentucky to find that I hadn't gained any weight at all! I was pretty surprised by that because as my husband said it seemed like all we did was eat and shop. It really was a delicious and fun trip!   But then that weekend we had a birthday party for Ian and then we had leftover cake for days followed by mother's day weekend the following weekend where we ate so many fattening, sugary, delicious treats yet again.    I don't think I've even opened my Weight Watcher's app this month to track any food!
