Prime Purchases in January & February

We decided not to renew our Amazon Prime membership in December so I haven't been ordering nearly as much from Amazon these past two month. I do, however, wait until I have a large list so I can take advantage of free shipping. My intention had been to try and not buy anything from them this year but it seems like I'm still placing orders at least once or twice a month... mostly because I can't find the same stuff in stores locally.

A lot of these organic food choices are cheaper in bulk through amazon and since I am the only one that eats them, they should last me quite a long time!  If anyone has any suggestions on where else to look for cheaper organic products I've love some ideas! I did place an order with Vitacost, and looked into Azure (which doesn't have drop off locations near us). Our nearest Trader Joes is 45 minutes away as is the nearest Whole Foods which were my next thoughts...

Raw organic cashews

Organic hemp seeds

Basil seeds

Raw organic pistachios

Organic Brazil Nuts

Organic grass fed ghee

Organic whole wheat orzo

My husband hasn't been able to find his favorite granola in the stores so I ordered him a pack of 6 of the Love Crunch Dark Chocolate/ Peanut butter

I ordered these Van Gogh bookmarks (though not all are Van Gogh-one is Monet!) to add one in Alec's care package.. of course I am enjoying the others myself. But it was perfect after seeing the Van Gogh exhibit in person in January. And they are so beautiful!

I also ordered this pack of Van Gogh srapboooking paper so I can scrapbook our museum trip.

This pack of Hawaii/Maui paper for our trip pages along with this pack of tropical paper that I LOVE

I ordered this photo album for our Hawaii trip; those photos I don't use in scrapbook layouts get put into an album... I know this is a bit redundant but it's what I've done with all our big trips. I love that this album has a place for me to write about our trip alongside each photo.

Finally I ordered some household items like new bath mats for the boys' and the 1/2 bath: I ordered them all in this brand and went with the dark gray & white speckled for both.

I also ordered new toilet seat covers for both; they don't match perfectly but the graphite color is pretty close and cuts down on the sound of the lid slamming shut.

  1. I know that Aldi carries some organic nuts- at least ours does. But you may not have one close to you. That Van Gogh paper is so cool- who would have thought that there would be scrapbook paper based off of his paintings? Really neat, though, as are the bookmarks. Have a great Monday!

    1. We have an Aldi about 30 minutes away but it is incredibly tiny; I should look there though. Perhaps I'll swing by tomorrow since it's near Evan's college and I have to play chauffer anyway since Alec also needs the car at the same time.

  2. Tom made sure our new toilets have the soft close lids. They go down on their own and it's so nice. I remember that horrible sound. Lol. I have taken a great Amazon break since Christmas but I have lots of stuff in my cart that I want.

    1. Ours used to but we haven't replaced any in nearly 20 years so they no longer close softly on their own.

  4. I love the Van Gogh paper! I think if you live in a more rural area it's hard to skip Amazon. Costco, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes are about an hour away so I plan my trips there when I have appointments nearby and that's usually once a month or so.We would spend so much time driving around various places out here in the country lol without the convenience of Amazon. And we do have a Staples so returns are really easy. Have a nice week!

    1. Thank you! I never go into Worcester where our TJ and Whole Foods are and believe it or not I have NEVER been inside a Costco! However, Evan is looking into going to college in Worcester so I might be in the city more often. Even our Staples is a good 25 minutes or so away but at least it's near Target and other stores we frequent often enough that yes, returns are nice and easy... even if I do feel so guilty and wasteful with them since none of them are actually ever returned to Amazon.

  5. I use Amazon way too much for foodstuffs I can't buy elsewhere. We do have some pretty good organic online shops here though, one is quite cheap. I love the bookmarks!

  7. I would have said Whole Foods, but if you don't have one close than Amazon it is! I like those bookmarks!

The foodie things look great and buying in bulk is such a good idea.

  11. I order lots of things from Amazon. I tend to not buy in bulk as I live alone and it takes too long to use things up. I always enjoy monthly recap of purchases. It's funny. I haven't purchased a toilet seat cover in decades. I used them when I was younger. I don't know why I quit. #MMBC

  13. We are fortunate to have access to a variety of grocery options in the area that seem to be carrying more healthy options. I was pleasantly surprised to discover Whole Foods does offer an Amazon account holder discount on sale purchases.

Sadly, with more stores closing I am finding myself moving to bigger online options for a variety of items, not just food as they just aren't available in stores locally.

  14. I just went to Aldi's and picked up some mixed nuts for hubby and a couple bags of pistachio's. I eat a small handful before bed and it helps me to sleep so much better.

  15. Do you have a warehouse store like Costco that you could shop at? That's another membership though but could be worth it if your not wanting to do Amazon.

    1. We don't have any Costco stores near us but we do have BJ's-- however, I found they had hardly any organic things so we dropped that membership too.

  16. Some great purchases. I get most of my nuts from Costco but I buy my seeds from Terrasoul on Amazon as well.

  17. I need to visit a Van Gogh exhibit or experience so I can justify buying that paper. Your Hawaii paper is beautiful too. With Hobby Lobby and Michaels having less scrapbook stuff here I am glad Amazon has things.

  18. Love the paper and bookmarks! We are keeping our prime membership because we use it for tv too, but I am trying to buy a little less or at least let things sit in my cart to be sure I really want them.

We are lucky that Trader Joe's is close because the price on their nuts can't be beat. However, I do buy a bunch when we are there and keep them in the freezer...then they last a really long time.

  23. I am really glad I never got into Amazon because it's just too easy. I don't always trust the vendors, either. Good luck finding a new place...I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions.

  24. The organic nuts sound great! We usually get ours from the farmers market, but we go through them so quickly. I never thought about ordering them from Amazon—I’ll have to check the prices and see how they compare. Ruth@playworkeatrepeat

  25. Joanne,
I do not even have an Amazon acct. but my son does..He will often gift me gift cards and that is when I will let him know what I want from Amazon...I do like it for things that I absolutely can not find in stores but honestly, I usually do a google search on a product and amazon usually comes up as the most expensive...I buy a lot of things from Boscov's and I even found things cheaper through Walmart online...Do a simple search on google using the product name and see all the places you can buy it and see where it is cheaper...
    Thanks too for stopping by!

    1. My problem is right now I don't even have product names to go off of.. yet! I figure the more I try brands and the more things I try the more I'll know what I like and what I want to re-buy. I don't have an Amazon account either but usually as long as the order is over $35 you get free shipping anyway.

  26. Hi Jo - as a non-Amazon customer I am always surprised by how much there is to buy - the variety staggers me. We still order the occasional book from Amazon and I try very hard not to get too caught up in all they have to offer - it's so tempting to keep scrolling. I like that your purchases are all so practical - well worth keeping up with your purchasing.

I've been buying ours at Whole Foods and our local store just changed up what options they offer so I may be looking elsewhere! Those bookmarks are a great find, too. I often include a fun one in a basket when sending a retirement gift. Thanks, Joanne!

  29. It's impossible not to order from Amazon, especially if you live in a rural area like I do. I buy so much food from them because things I need, like specialty bread flours, aren't even available in my neck of the woods.

    1. We have very few actual stores near us especially for crafting supplies. We have one very small Michael's but they really only carry solid colored paper and not much for patterned paper. We used to have TONS of small mom and pop scrapbooking shops but as digital scrapbooking started taking over they all closed up one by one.
