Friday Favorites: The Second Week of November
Look at me participating in an actual Friday Favorites! It's been ages since I've summed up our week this way but we had a pretty good and slightly unusual week that I wanted to document.
Rewinding to last Friday I headed out to brunch with my mom and step-father. We not only had a very delicious meal at Bill's Bread and Breakfast but we had a great time catching up and laughing. While this move and their intro into retirement have been pretty stressful for them they have certainly kept their sense of humor. (Sorry, no photos; we were too busy eating and visiting!)
That afternoon Evan asked me if I wanted to go for a hike so we headed to Pulaski. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a great walk but man, it was definitely NOT a favorite to see just how low the water was in the pond-- even the beaver lodge was completely dry!
Typically this entire cove would be under water. |
water is usually flowing right under this bridge and over the dam on the other side. |
Saturday morning we headed to Johnson and Wales university to tour the down city campus with Evan. It was cold but it was still fun and informative and we met up with Alec (our other son who goes there). It was great to catch up with him too and we all ate lunch together in the dining hall.
My husband and Ian headed out deep sea fishing on Sunday and later that evening I was sent these photos-- Ian won the pool (all the people on the boat that want to participate put in $5 or whatever the bet amount is and whomever catches the biggest fish of the day wins the pool). He was thrilled!
I received that text while out to dinner with Evan. Since it was just the two of us at home we decided to head out to dinner together and I got this really delicious chicken flatbread sandwich with a side salad.
Monday after Evan worked on some of his college writing we headed out for another lovely hike. The weather was just beautiful!
Tuesday I found time in the afternoon to work on my newest puzzle; it's a challenge because it's foil covered and shiny but I am loving it. My mother in law gave it to me since she didn't like it. It's not something I would have picked for myself but it has definitely grown on me.
Losing power for 5+ hours right in the middle of dinner and lasting well until bedtimes was NOT a favorite but this battery powered tool torch was! It lit up the whole room really well.
We had a quiet day at home on Wednesday but I managed to finish my puzzle and spent some more time researching things to do and see while we're in Hawaii.
Evan and I met up with some friends of our for an easy walking hike at the Thompson Dam on Thursday. It was definitely a favorite to walk and talk with our friends and the weather was actually pretty nice for mid-November. We saw so many varieties of birds too.
Seeing some ice already forming on the water was not a favorite.. |
How was your week?

Lots of neat and a few not so neat things, too (losing power!), so I can see why you´d want to document it. Love your nature photos and congrats to the guys deep sea fishing. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI hate losing power too- such a hassle right? Your hikes look wonderful as always even with some ice- eek!
ReplyDeleteLuckily I was done cooking dinner! We elected not to run out in the cold wind to put on the generator since we figured it wouldn't be off THAT long and we're well used to running without power. I was so disappointed to see that ice! LOL. Luckily it is supposed to warm up a bit again this weekend.
DeleteGreat and eventful week! Sorry about you losing power!
ReplyDeleteIt was so funny that it happened that night since I had just been commenting on someone's blog about how we always loose power and usually out of the blue when we don't know to expect it..
DeleteThe water does look low, but still some pretty scenery. I am impressed with the puzzle as it looks challenging to me with the similar colors and patterns. So fun you were able to see Alec and congrats to Ian on the fish!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was a nice, challenging puzzle with all the colors and patterns but I enjoyed it.
DeleteI love your bird pictures! We lost power last week but it only lasted like 1/2 hour luckily!
ReplyDeleteThank you! That was the first day in a long time that I broke out the "real" camera and seeing the end results reminded me why I bought it in the first place. I really need to get back to always hiking with that one.
DeleteIt sounds like you had a lovely time with your mom and step father!
ReplyDeleteAww! That is sad to see the lack of water on your hike.
What a fab visit to the university and it sounds like your husband and Ian had a brilliant time fishing!
That looks like a great puzzle. The power cut does not sound like fun but the torch looks amazing!
We had a great time checking out the university and catching up with Alec at the same time. He is just loving living away from home.
DeleteThe anonymous commenter is at it again! I'm rolling my eyes, but moving on. What a great week you've had! I love that you had quality time with your sons this week, and that Ian and his dad did something fun together. I'm sure he was thrilled to win that pool! I'm glad you participated in today's Friday Favorites!
ReplyDeleteI noticed... but with the flick of a button they're gone. My space/my rules! They are already planning one last fishing trip next month.
DeleteSo cool for your son to win the pool fishing! Looks like a fun night! We went on a hike last week too. We've been trying to do something outdoors when our oldest comes home for the weekend.

He was so proud of himself; that fish is huge too. One filet from it fed 5 people for dinner the next night! Alec was missing hiking so much that he joined a hiking club at school. He loves getting away from the city and getting up and moving.
DeleteThat's crazy you lost power. It shows how much we are dependent on it.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Jodie
Yep, we can't even flush toilets or get a drink of water without power! Luckily it wasn't a below freezing night.
DeleteI feel your pain. Sending hugs. Have a good weekend.

Thanks!
DeleteYour hikes look so nice! Although it is weird seeing the water so low. I know the Carolinas and Virginia have been at or near drought conditions. The bird pictures are fun though! I always like seeing the eastern bluebirds. Getting to spend time with family is always so nice! And congrats to Ian for winning the fishing pool!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat's such a hassle to lose power. Your hikes are so beautiful, and I can't believe you already have ice! Congrats to Ian on the catch!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it either; it has warmed up to near 60 this weekend so I'm sure it's melted now...
DeleteSounds like an almost perfect week....well, minus that ice forming already! I'm not ready for ice. Or winter!
ReplyDeleteOh me either; I love living in New England.. except for the ice and snow. LOL
DeleteI'm glad you were able to have such a good time with your parents. I don't think it's been that dry here, but I know rivers and streams are definitely low. We have had rain a couple of days and could use more. It's really been a weird year, weather-wise. What will Evan study? Is he leaning toward this college? I remember, when I was a kid, I loved losing power. Not anymore! That battery powered light is really powerful. My week was quiet and kinda boring.

Thank you! Evan is planning to study animal behavior (if the college has that major) or else he'll be combining psychology classes with animal studies. Actually Alec's college is last on Evan's list and I honestly think the only even looked into it since they have a 4 day week instead of 5. 😂
DeleteWe have at the moment so many birds in our garden. And they sing so loud, i love that. I'm glad that we don't have any ice at the water yet, but it's getting really cold here next week.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds wonderful!
DeleteSounds like a lovely week full of good food and family time! That hike must have been refreshing, even with the low water levels. How is Saturday going? Read my new post. Thank you. ReplyDeleteIt was lovely here today and we actually went on another hike and this time we got to see some water!
DeleteI wonder why the pond water was so low. I thought you had a lot of rain this spring. Gorgeous bird photos, and your puzzle looks incredible.
ReplyDeleteWe had a lot of rain this spring and pretty much none since. I honestly can't remember the last time it rained.
DeleteThose hikes look amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYour bird pictures are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou managed to make the best of the power outage. ❤️
Thank you so much!
DeleteThat is crazy how low the water was in the pond! Your puzzle turned out great! It reminds me of Lisa Frank that was popular in elementary school!
ReplyDeleteYes! That puzzle reminded me of Lisa Frank things too!
DeleteI enjoyed your beautiful photos on your re-cap. Sounds like lots of fun around the outdoors and the indoors, too. Great job completing that puzzle even with the power outage. You reminded me that I need to pull out a puzzle, too. Happy new week to you.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteIt is crazy how dry it has been!! That puzzle is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I find myself hoping it will rain soon..
DeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
