Coziness; From Summer to Fall

Jennifer decided to make her Cozy Chronicles a link up (the link up is tomorrow) so today I'm talking about taking our coziness from summer to fall. As much as I love spring and summer there is nothing quite like fall in New England. It is one season we do real well up here. The trees put on a spectacular show and warm drinks, sweaters, and cozy nights in take over.

To make our house cozy for fall I start pulling out all our lovely fall decorations-- including twinkling lights on the mantle and lots flickering electric candles in our candle holders.

Photo from 2020

Burning fall scented candles and melts-- my favorite scents are those that make me think of baking; pumpkin spice, cinnamon bun, caramel apple, etc.

I put out more throw pillows and throw blankets-- which my family literally likes to throw around...

I start pulling out my sweaters, cozy fleece socks, and scarves

Our crock pot gets more use than ever with delicious smells filling the house all day. Some of our favorites include pot roast, lasagna soup, chicken noodle soup (which I sometimes cook in the crock pot or on the stove in a large pot), chili, etc.

I also tend to bake a lot more in fall; with apples fresh from the orchard we make cookies, apple pies, caramel apples, apple crisp, etc. We bake up pumpkin scones, pumpkin bread, squash muffins, fresh bread to go with our soups and stews, etc.

This time of year I bring out a few puzzles and always have at least one going.

We start to use our woodstove and fireplace more as the days get colder and colder.

We start buying yummy fall treats in the stores:

  5. Fall her just feels like late summer. We won't get consistently cool temps until late October or November. So I have to fake myself out with the scented candles and allll the pumpkin things! Love those sweaters, by the way.

  6. Yes! I love when I can get cozy inside my house and outside on the patio. I can usually keep using my patio until Christmas with blankets. I am very into Hygge. All of our furniture is very comfortable and Tom was big on finding things that looked good but also felt comfy.

    1. My husband and I apparently have very different ideas of comfortable furniture! I love all our couches and chairs but he thinks our living room set is "too small"... guess that's what happens when you send the two smallest in the house to pick out furniture for everyone!

  8. I love this time of year with the season changing. I have already been burning more candles, I got a pumpkin one yesterday which I am going to light later on.
I can't wait to start eating heartier more warming meals and getting the slow cooker going.

    1. We've already started using our slow cooker more but mostly just because we've been busy not necessarily for those comfort meal feelings.

    1. Yeah, I haven't actually done any of these things yet this year because I am still soaking up those last few warm sunny days. Even if our mornings are cool the afternoons are still so nice and warm.

I always think I should put up a puzzle, but I'm afraid I'd never get anything done, LOL.
The crock pot is so convenient, and we use it all year.

  21. Fall is definitely my favorite time of the year. I think I'm going to downsize my decorating this year as the house is just all whopper jawed with things shoved here and there for Mike's wheelchair. And, I don't want to bother my kids to help bring down my pumpkin collection. So, I'll decorate with the pumpkins that are stored in the house...I just discovered some in the vanity in Mike's bathroom! It's the only time of year I miss having a fireplace! I'm going to have try your lasagna soup recipe!

  24. I love fall decor but this year my house isn't getting it -- at least till after we're back from traveling. So it's extra fun to revel in yours. It's so warm and welcoming here. A lovey post (and delicious one, too -- just bought apples yesterday. I believe a crisp may be in order!)

  25. Cozy is just the best. And fall cozy is the best kind of coziness. Girl, I could park in front of your fireplace and be quite content til spring.
Will check out your recipes. Thank you for the links. Paul is always wanting to start a soup diet every Monday but by Wednesday he is ready for meat and potatoes. The lasagna soup looks so hearty!!
Hoping to persuade PC to get my fall decorations out for me today. Or my daughter, when she comes to visit today. I bet you are already enjoying fall weather while we are still baking in upper 90s. But surely fall is around the corner.

  31. Fall is my favorite season. We have mountains nearby and love to take a ride there this time of year. I love the changing wardrobe, menus, scents, and light. I love the soups and stews especially. Not big on pumpkin although I do like pumpkin bread. I love all things apple though and do a lot with those this time of year. Enjoy this cozy season! Your fireplace and mantle look so nice.

  34. Yes to all of the coziness! I need to go to Target and find some of those treats! I just bought some pumpkin sandwich cookies similar to those from there, but they were from the bakery rather than boxed on the shelf. I need to try those boxed ones because they probably last longer!
