Currently for May

It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for the Currently link up with Jennifer. This month we're looking at what we're currently loving, looking forward to, seeing, reading, and wanting.

Loving: We had a beautiful hike up Mt. Wachusett on Friday and I am kind of loving how sore I am; knowing I worked all those muscle groups. Plus the weather was just perfect and we could see all the way to the Boston skyline! I love hiking this time of year where it's not too hot, not too cold, and there still aren't any real mosquitoes out just yet.

We also had a wonderful party for Ian celebrating his 20th birthday.

Looking forward to-- Another trip to Acadia, Maine! My husband and I got together to plan a little getaway for our anniversary and we're heading back to Acadia and our favorite little B&B called Harbour Cottage Inn. I'm dreaming of chef Daniel's incredible breakfasts and looking forward to some really lovely hikes. (Photos below are from last year's trip-- which you can read about here if you like).

Seeing-- Real signs of spring-- finally!  This week I noticed the buds on the trees are starting to open. "Our" heron is back. I saw a family of geese/goslings on our lawn too and while I really don't like the geese the babies are just too cute!

Reading-- Tomorrow I'll be sharing all the books I read during the month of April and starting a new link up called Share Your Shelf with Jennifer, Marilyn, and Tanya...

But..  I've already started a few books for May: I'm listening to The Thursday Murder Club, reading A Hidden Secret by Linda Castillo, The Revenge Club by Kathy Lette, and have started P. S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern after watching the movie a few weekends ago.

Wanting-- To stop my weight gain in it's tracks....

I started Weight Watchers in March/April of 2019 and weighed in at 185 and by February of 2020 I was down to 150 pounds but then I had surgery and couldn't exercise for several months and I slowly started gaining back. My weight has hovered around 164 ever since.. I've been indulging just a bit too much lately and I'm floundering with my plant- based eating and knowing how much of what I am currently eating is too much so I bit the bullet this week and rejoined Weight Watchers.  I want to get back down around 160ish and see if I can make it back to my goal weight of 150 again while following my mostly plant based philosophy and still keeping my family fed and satisfied.  Wish me luck!

Before and After...

Currently feeling pretty good somewhere in the middle but don't want to get back to that "before" weight. I noticed I was struggling more than usual on our hike Friday which prompted this whole back to WW thing.

  1. That view of Boston! How cool that you climbed that high to see the skyline. Very impressive. Your getaway sounds great- I am hoping my husband and I can get away later in the year. Good luck with WW. You look great but I know how it is when you want a change...

    1. Thank you! It's unusual to have clear skies from the top of that mountain to see that far so it's always neat when we can.

  2. There's nothing like a Spring (or Fall) hike when the weather is refreshing and the sky is blue! The sights looked amazing and I know that feeling of accomplishment that only a few sore muscles can provide! Good for you! And now I'm intrigued to learn more about Acadia, Maine, too!

  4. The hike sounds wonderful! It does look like the perfect day for it. I am glad Ian had a good celebration for his birthday!
The trip away you are planning sounds fantastic and it's starting to feel like spring here too.
Good luck with Weight Watchers. I think you look great.

  5. I would love to go to Maine! I hear you on the food struggles. It's almost a part time job planning, prepping, etc. to feed myself and my family in a healthy-ish way. I am really trying to not eat after dinner and I would like dinner to be slightly earlier. Then, I don't eat again until 8 a.m. during week and later on weekends. I'm usually good for 14 hours right now. I want to eat less meat, more plant variety, and more salads.

    1. I really have only been to coastal Maine but I just love it so much! I do feel like food prep and planning feel likes a part time job. I try not to eat after dinner either (typically 5:30 for us) and then I don't eat breakfast until 8 or 8:30 the next day but there are nights I just can't seem to pass up a snack.

  12. I love Acadia. I think it's one of the prettiest places on Earth. We have a big anniversary this June (aren't they all big???) and we're going to England in September and counting that as our anniversary trip. My middle grandchild was born on our anniversary so we'll celebrate on the day with him and his closest 2 year old friends lol.

  15. Your son’s cake looks delicious! Are those Rolos? My mom bought my kids sweatshirts that said “Cool as a Moose in Bar Harbor, Maine.” They wore them forever, and we could pass them down as one outgrew them. The weight struggle is so real. It is really hard to maintain. I did it for over ten years and then gradually put it back on. Then, I had surgery last summer and have really packed the pounds on. Good luck, my friend!

  16. Hi Joanne, firstly happy 20th birthday to your son! It looks like you enjoy hiking as I do. It was my favourite thing to do when we were in New Zealand. You see the most beautiful things and it makes you feel truly alive! Love the look of the cottage you're booked to go to for your anniversary and oh my gosh those breakfasts looks delicious! I'd be looking forward to going back for those too! BTW I get it with the weight gain. I've got the same problem from stress snacking. I'm gonna have to cut it out. Sigh - it's a pain in the butt having to worry about it isn't it? Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy and best wishes for a wonderful month of May ahead! xo

    That cake looks scrumptious!
And those views from Mt. Wachusett are breathtaking.
Your upcoming trip to Acadia sounds amazing, and the photos from last year's trip are stunning. Good luck with Weight Watchers; you've got this!

    Happy Thursday, Joanne!

  20. Hooray for using all the muscles groups - and the ache to prove it. I do like that feeling. Just not a fan of the process. But I really should do it more often. And be incredibly grateful that I am able!! Congrats on the weight loss...and here's to reaching your ultimate goal. Hmmm - I didn't realize you were primarily plant based. How do I miss these things??:)

  21. Acadia is one of my top ten destinations I want to visit. It looks so beautiful!

I need to cut back on some of the treats I have been indulging in as well. Lol. I also recently lost weight and I don't want to put it back on either.

    1. I really loved it; we've only visited a handful of National parks but Acadia has been my favorite by far. I think it's perfect for me with that rocky Maine coastline and all the wooded hiking trails.

  22. I think Acadia is one of the most beautiful places on earth! Also, wishing you all the luck with your health and weight loss goals. I lost so much in Korea, and I felt amazing. I've gained a lot through winter in Alaska and some depression here. I'm ready to get healthy again!

  23. Happy birthday, Ian!! Acadia is on our list of places to go!

  24. The Thursday Murder Club has been on my list for a while. Congrats on getting back on your weight loss journey and happy birthday to Ian!
