Let's Look At: My Morning Routine
This month's Let's Look is all about our morning routine. My morning routine changes quite frequently since I tend to adjust my schedule based on what everyone else in the house has going on.
My latest routine goes something like this:
5:00 the alarm goes off (we get to sleep in from 4:30 now that my husband's job was altered). I typically stay in bed until 5:30 reading a book or checking emails on my phone.
5:30 I head downstairs and empty the dishwasher, take out/prep food for dinner, and make sure Evan's schoolwork is set out on the table.
This day I made homemade pizza dough and then it sit and rest all day before forming 6 individual pizzas |
End of the school year means we have very few subjects left |
5:45 I make sure Alec is awake and getting dressed for school.
6:00 Both Ian and Alec are in the kitchen making breakfasts and lunch and I often help with the lunches and ask questions to get a low down on their day and who will be home at what time (since they each have their own vehicle and jobs and school and whatnot it's the only way I can keep track). I also get my blog posts linked up at this time.
6:30 Alec leaves for school by 7:00 I've made sure to start my workout; lately I've been heading to the basement to use the treadmill and watch either Caribbean Life or Bahama Life.
7:30 I head up to shower, get dressed, make the bed and get ready for the day; usually starting a load of laundry.
8:00/8:30 Evan comes downstairs fully dressed and we tend to eat breakfast around the same time and also start his schoolwork
This day I made an omelets with zucchini/mushrooms/onions (that I had previously cooked up for the week to go with my eggs). |
9:00/9:30 Since he only has 1 or 2 subjects left to finish up the school year we're usually done his schooling pretty quickly. Then prepare to head out hiking.
Depending on where and how long we hike that usually takes us up to lunch time.

It must feel good to have the bulk of your homeschooling done for the year already. My husband's alarm clock goes off around 6:00 am but I usually awake before that either on my own, or if I'm subbing, I need to get up earlier than that.
ReplyDeleteIt really does! I've been pushing Evan to try and double up on lessons to finish even sooner. :) I am rarely asleep when our alarm goes off regardless of what time it's set for.
DeleteYou get so much accomplished- just love it and I really want to jump through this screen and eat that breakfast- ha! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL; it was delicious! I rarely think to make myself an omelet but it is a quick and easy breakfast.
DeleteI get up at 6:45 and if I read then I'd probably fall back asleep, so I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteLove your morning routine! Having the workout and hiking in the morning is wonderful! I am looking forward to summer mainly because I won't have to get up at 6 am.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to lounging around more once school is out for the summer.
DeleteI love the sound of your mornings although I am not too sure about the early start. I don't get up until about half past seven now. hehehe You must be so happy that the school year is nearly finished.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the school year to be finished; I keep trying to get Evan to do a few extra lessons each day but he is such a procrastinator.
DeleteI also wake up around 5 each morning. You're a very productive person! I feel waking up early helps me to be more producive as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah I find I have always been most productive in the morning and I like to get everything out of the way as soon as I can so I can relax.
DeleteJoanne, with getting up early I can see why you get so much done. It must be so nice going on those morning hikes.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is! We'll start swapping them out with kayak rides once the mornings warm up a bit.
DeleteOh that just sounds so lovely. I'm sure winding down for summer with homeschooling is such a good feeling.
ReplyDeleteIt really is!! I find this time of year I really start going through every single book and scrutinizing what really MUST be done and evaluating if it's worth or time or not. LOL.
DeleteI'm not a morning person so that 5 AM wakeup call sounds exhausting. Haha. I'm up at 6 every morning and that's too early for me! You do get a lot done in the morning, though!
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I always think you are up so late at night and I could never do that so I think it all evens out.
DeleteYou are very productive early in the morning. My hubs complains if I empty the dishwasher before he's up lol. I am also a morning person and like getting things done early. What time do you go to bed?
ReplyDeleteOh, by the time I'm unloading the dishwasher my husband is gone and my two oldest are already up getting ready for their days too. Typically we all go to bed around 9 but I don't fall asleep until 10.
DeleteGreat morning routine! You get so much done and then have a fun hike to look forward to.

Thank you!
DeleteWow! I have only been asleep for a couple of hours by the time you get up! I have to admit I miss the days of having kids around to herd. You accomplish so much before lunch!

I am definitely most productive early in the day.
DeleteYou are so good at getting up early! I think you have a great routine each morning and I imagine you feel very accomplished by lunchtime.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI would get a lot more done if I got up that early, haha.

LOL!
DeleteI bet that extra half hour feels good in the morning! Morning exercise is the only way to guarantee it happens for me. It’s nice that you have some time with each boy during the mornings.
ReplyDeleteIt really does! I can't wait until mid-June when I can start sleeping in even later.
DeleteWe're nearing the end of our first year of homeschool, and we definitely started late, so we're still in the thick of it! I'm intrigued by the possibility of finishing earlier in the future haha I love how organized you are!
ReplyDeleteWhen the kids were little (like yours) we used to homeschool in fits and spurts year round. It was great for keeping us busy but then as they got older we moved towards a more traditional school year so they could have summers off to spend with friends.
DeleteSounds like a good day!
ReplyDeleteIt was, thank you!
DeleteGetting up early is not easy! You have a great morning routine and get so much accomplished!

Aw, thanks! It's become second nature to get up early.. in fact we struggle when we're on vacation to sleep in and are often up and raring to go before restaurants and attractions are even open!
DeleteWith a family to ensure they are fed, and organised then I can see why the mornings are pretty full on. Since we have retired fully, i.e. no volunteering either, we both enjoy a far more leisurely start to our days and appreciate the luxury since we did not have that for 40+ years!! It is always a pleasure to see you share a post from your blog on Wednesday’s Words and Pics Link Up. I hope you continue to do so! Take care, Denyse.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I do look forward to sleeping in more at some point.
DeleteWhat a great morning routine.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
Aw, thank you!
DeleteYou do well to fit so much in! I always feel more productive when I get up early.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week Joanne! :)
Aw, thanks!
DeleteLove your morning routine. Wish I could get up that early. That breakfast looks delicious, way better than my weekday cereal or oatmeal breakfast.

Oh thank you! I almost always have eggs with veggies or a fruit/yogurt parfait.
